I am so sleep deprved that it's starting to get to me. I really prefer a natural remedy. Ive tried melatonin, milk before bed and having a carb, dark room, etc. I'm just hopeless.....

Not trying to be a perv or anything but have you tried masturbation? I don't know how well that works but I've heard that suggested before. Other than that have you tried soft music?

Are you getting enough exercise? If you were physically and mentally exhausted by the end of the day, you'd be far more likely to pass the **** out when your head hit the pillow. (y)

Oh man, been there, done that.

I suffered severe insomnia thanks to my neighbours for a whole year. Hell, maybe a bit longer. Wrecked my nerves something awful. Winning combination I'm using today are locating the least noisy position in the apartment for your bed, enjoying some nice chamomile tea an hour or so before bed while avoiding any excitement, and instead of going with earplugs, go with an mp3 player with one of those sleep CDs- just make sure they have one of those betawaves or whatnot in the background. Dan Gibson's 'Sleep Deeply' works like a charm for me.

Also, avoid high energy meals before bedtime, consider taking a relaxing shower, work out during the day few times a week, and generally cut down on caffeine consumption. Hard to give sage advice, since insomnia can stem from a lot of different issues. Generally the best thing to do is identify the cause, and read up on the subject. That's what I did.

As much as I hate meds, too, I still got some sleeping meds as a final resort. Still, haven't had to use so much lately, maybe once or twice a month and only at half the dosage. :)

Beat your head off the wall until you pass out. You'll sleep like a rock. But be sure to take a massive pain killer before you do so to deal with the headache you'll have when you wake up.

Other than that, how bout some meditation/bath/classical music before bed?

I've heard of that, me too :p.

Whenever having trouble sleeping, my standard trick is to start my imagination up a little and just get it going. You know, they way you sometimes notice how you start to assocatie things very weirdly, just before you slip of into sleep - I just try to get that process started. Think of shapes, colours, things, patterns, and so on, which don't have any clear connection (that just the way I do it, though), and make them flow into each other and become new stuff. Usually works for me.

Haha, me giving someone advice on how to sleep would be like a chicken giving a penguin advice on how to fly. :p But I know whenever I lie down and start actively thinking about things, such as fantasies, a to-do list for tomorrow, etc. my brain goes "Oh hell naw" and I fall right to sleep. So goes the extent of my utter laziness. :D

Passionflower

Also make sure you're getting enough sunlight during your awake hours.

Exercise usually helps - try to schedule sometime to jog in the evening, then relax with a bath or shower? If you do use sleeping meds such as ambien, be sure to lock yourself into a room and avoid anything that you can interact with in that room such as a smartphone or a computer with an internet connection; people do weird things when essentially knocked sleepwalking by ambien, including random purchases on Ebay.

I recommend using "Motion Lotion". It saves you a lot of time and effort at an affordable price for the everyday masturbator.

Reading

or

watching TV with the lights out

Both in bed. Knocks me down soon.

^Yeah, reading helps. Especially if it's a dull or difficult subject.

Playing an easy game that's relaxing rather than stressful (no killing monsters) might help too. I used to curl up under the covers and play Bejeweled on a Palm Pilot back in the good old days, and for awhile I played Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS every night before bed. It helps take your mind off of life, requires mental focus so you're not just laying there bored and restless, but isn't so engaging that you'll stay awake all night trying to rack up points.

A shower and an orgasm are the best I know of.

Some people use calcium. Vitamin C in large doses. L-Tryptophan. 5-HTP. Valerian. Lots of carbs work for some people. White noise.

I love it when people who can get to sleep, advise people that can't.Do you think we haven't tried all those things?
When your brain refuses to shut down,it's miserable.Without Zopiclone,I can be awake for 4 days straight! And it's damned boring too.

No offence intended,Naleena did ask for advice.

As I understand it, many people people use Ambien as a hallucinogen
