I'm not American but if you guys elect Bernie Sanders you might actually change the world for the good. The UK is influenced by America more than it cares to accept or admit, if you guys shift to the left then we might get these right wing fuckers out of parliament.

I know the guy is 400 years old but listen to him.

You can't be happy with this Bush-Clinton-Fake black socialist merrygoround. That train is headed towards global catastrophe, for all of us.

And stop this tar sands nonsense - YOUR GOING TO DESTROY THE PROSPECTS FOR DECENT EXISTENCE.

Bernie For President - donate today, donate even if you are not in the US.

Fake black

I assume this is referring to Obama? You are aware his father IS black right? Which makes HIM black too.... WTF dude....

Also, it doesn't matter who is president, they will do **** that people don't like. Politicians are known to lie a lot, so you don't know if Sanders will do what he says....or any of them for that matter.
It doesn't matter who you vote for because really, we do NOT decide who is president, the electoral college does....

I am well aware he is technically black. He is fake black with respect to how race relations appear to have gone down under him. #blacklivesmatter and all that.

Also Sanders is influenced by Chomsky.

Black Lives Matter has nothing to do with Obama. He didn't create it and it has nothing to do with America having a black president. Yes, that hashtag appeared WHILE he was president, but it's hardly the first and it started long before Obama became president.

But those of us on the left who were almost in tears when Obama was elected thought (wrongly) this was the beginning of the end of racism. What use a black president who does nothing for race relations?

Yes, "wrongly" elected TWICE. Get over it. If he didn't become president, someone else would have and in turn done something just as bad as whatever Obama did.
WE do NOT elect the damn president. Get over it.

The fact that he is black means nothing, he is a person, just like anyone one of us regardless of race. It doesn't matter what race the president is, racism will likely ALWAYS exist. Yeah, Black Lives Matter came about, but guess what....the KKK also still exists, as well as numerous other hate groups. You can't really change what people believe.

Of course you can change what people believe - only 30 yrs ago it was still very widely believed it was ok to rape women (they wanted/deserverd it), a mere 20 yrs ago when I was a boy it was ok for men to have sex with little boys and the boy (me) was considered a dirty little sod. Things can change. Things do change.

Our racist factions in the UK are generally poorly educated. If bell hooks was on the curriculum this would go a long way to beginning to end racism and rape/patriarchy.

It would not take a genius to train and have policies about racism in the police force.

The US has the highest prison population of any developed country (mostly black/hispanic) - this itself was the criminalization of black life.

A kid does not see a different coloured kid as "different". That has to be learned.

It was not "okay" to do those things, people just didn't come forward and report them as often as they do now.
There are so many different hate groups out there, not only for black people. You can focus on that one race all you want, but I won't.

Might I remind you that there are also WHITE hate groups out there? Chinese, Muslim, you name it, there is a hate group.
And you know....the majority of those black/hispanic people in jail might just deserve to be in there. Same as the white people or any other race.

You want to see Obama acknowledge his blackness? Watch this.

Uhm. Re-read what he said. You misread it.

His long and extensive voting record and political career back him up. While it is true that other candidates are talking heads trying to get elected, he is saying what he feels and means.

Google the man, you may like what you find.

I wanted to talk about Bernie Sanders with other leftists :(

I'm voting for Bernie.

Who cares if Obama is black... He couldn't help either way. So stop with the bickering about someone's race, because that really doesn't determine whether they're any good or not.

I don't value talking to you. There are plenty of Chomsky talks on YouTube, watch some before you shout me down.

Or go back to watching Fox News and leave me be.

Not sure who he was responding to.

Well, if he was talking to me, I can settle that for him real quick. I don't give a **** who the next president is. Whoever it is will **** up somehow. I don't give a flying rat's ass about politics. I care about the fact that he brought race into it.

This topic is full of crap already. Don't bring race into it. And since Vanilla apparently has to go watch Fox News, have a go:

James, I didn't know you were familiar with Fox News. I assume you watch it regularly?

Any channel that shows The Simpsons is OK with me, lol.

To attempt to get this discussion back on track, from what I have heard and read, I really feel that Sanders is the real deal and would make a great president. Unfortunately, this will not happen. I volunteered for a similar candidate back in 2004, Dennis Kucinich. While he held many of the same positions as Bernie does, he was scoffed at as a loon, got minimal media coverage, got limited financing and as a result, barely registered in the primaries. I feel the same would likely happen to Sanders. Our current system will simply not allow for a candidate who vows to make the sweeping changes that Sanders would, so the media (which they own) undermines or ignores the candidates like Sanders, Kucinich, Nader who do not toe the line.
