In order to make social connections we often have to take initiative and can't rely on people to make an effort to connect with us. I did this once before and had a blast. After reading Giullia Melucci's entertaining book called "I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti" which is a memoir of great food and failed relationships I threw a party in honor of her book. I made spaghetti and meat balls, had wine, music, invited people over and we played the games Clue and Who wants to be a millionaire. Of course this fun only lasts one night if you do it only once so to continue this has to be done more often.

To keep it simple, you only need to invite a minimum of 2 people to your house, so you at least 3 people at your house or apartment, cook spaghetti and meatballs or order a pizza if you don't want to cook, have some wine, non-alcoholic beverages for those who don't drink, music, one of your invites can maybe bring dessert or appetizers and any board, card or dice game will work. Yahtzee, Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, Ouija board, the sky is the limit!

So, it's a book that explains inviting friends over for dinner and games will cheer you up?

:D

Profound!

The book doesn't say that, I do. I just got inspired to throw a party from reading it.

Ah yes, trick them with free food. Granted I wonder how this advice is more useful than telling others to talk to other people outside of their place?

That's reality. You have to give in order to receive.

If you talk to people outside your place, are you just having 5 minute conversations or arranging to hang out? To answer your question it depends on these variables.
