Greetings all.:)

Do you feel that the circus is inhumane?
If I had the power, I would make it illegal to use animals. Personally, I hate the circus to the core. Not to mention zoos as well. People will tell you that they treat the animals well.

I've seen video of how animals show their displeasure with being
exploited for profit. What these animals do to trainers and even some spectators is an extremely graphic example of how they feel about being treated the way they are.

I'm just wondering how you all feel about the subject.

God Bless.

Basically... in a way... yes. Large or even medium animals being trapped in cages all day who are used to having lots of room probably hate being in there. If they get to roam beyond the cages (which I have no idea), then that seems fair. I think zoos are neat.. but you have a point. As for the circus...I've never been to one so idk.

Yes, I do. I think that 'wild animals' are called 'wild' for a reason. It seems cruel to take tigers, elephants, etc. and give them a choice of riding a unicycle or face a bullwhip.

To me, it's karma every time some dumbass gets their face mauled off by some 'wild animal' that has had enough.

Zoos do serve the purpose of educating people about animals so that they're a more tangible reality that people will think of and care about (out of sight, out of mind, maybe? easier to feel for the pandas or the tigers when you've looked them in the eye), but many of them do fall short of leaving an impression or have questionable lodgings for their animals. At the very least, I believe it's inhumane to keep an animal without adequate food, water, stimulation, and quiet space away from the public. I think zoos also may display animals who are part of a breeding program for an endangered species, or rescue animals that are too old to be properly rehabilitated to live in the wild.

I don't think animals really care where they're living as long as they're comfortable and can burn off energy. I'd attribute discomfort to poor care rather than anger at exploitation - that's an abstract concept I don't think exists in most animal minds. They're not designed to think about things like ethics, self-actualization, ownership of self, etc. They're about survival and instinct, and their thoughts and emotions reflect that. I'm more concerned about animals that have expressed very high levels of intelligence and understanding such as apes, though, because if anything those would be the exceptions.

The circus is a longer post for another day.

Yes. However, I disagree about zoos. A circus.. an animal only is exploited for entertainment. I do not think the life of animals there.. ever it is not unfortunate one.

But zoos, if animals are cared for well, I do not think it is the same. Of course, people go there for entertainment, but also they can go there to learn about animals, and learn to love and care about them. There are bad zoos, and the life of animals there is unfortunate, but also good zoos where animals are cared for well, and live in the enclosure that is like their nature. I see it.. the animals that live in the zoos, they are like ambassador for their whole species, and incite people to care about them.

Also, many zoos involve in important breeding programs for endangered animals.

I have an experience to tell i think is related. When I was very little.. about 5 or 6.. I remember I was brought by my family to visit relatives, to a place with many wild foxes. There was a place.. not really a zoo, but many captive foxes to see. Ever since then, I love foxes, and additionally all other animals, and do all I can to prevent harm to them. So I think zoos and such places definitely can do good that way.

The thought of those poor animals being subjected to clowns day after day after day brings a tear to my eye.

If the animals are rescued and treated properly I don't have a problem with it. If the people mistreat the animals then that I have a problem with. Which that can go for any animal even ones that are considered "domesticated".

The circus is extremely inhumane to the rights of bearded women everywhere. If we don't act fast, they'll go extinct.

^ LMAO!

Oh Em Gee, clowns! I hate clowns. I'm actually just fine with clowns that are supposed to be creepy, like Pennywise. My issue is with real clowns. The ones who try too darned hard to look like good guys.

Erm... regarding animals... I don't like clown animals, either! No, wait. That wasn't the topic.

I'm fine with zoos. Most of them work to benefit animals in some way. I'm not specifically opposed to animals being in the circuses, either. Dogs and horses do tricks at home. Elephants can work for their veggies, too. I am opposed to actual abuse or neglect, which is not the same.

Yep. I also find zoos and aquariums inhumane as well. It saddens me when I see other species locked up and away from their natural habitat just for our own entertainment. These creatures have feelings too.

You don't own any pets do you Unwanted? You'd be a hypocrit if you did. Yes, we take animals out of the wild, but it CAN be a good experience. Some would argue we've taken humans out of the wild. I can think of a number that ought to be thrown back into the wild, lol.
