Slowing my reading helps to comprehend. Not the usual speed reading .
Dont have to spell every word correctly to comprehend. We all know this already. The many
text codes and slang I have to decifer when communicating with my daughters to keep up with the younger generation..

Its also a good habit or skill to have
when getting to know people in real life. To actually slow down and listen very carefully and hear what a person is actaully saying through their own way of expressing themselve...without my preconceive notions or ideas.
Not so much others will understand me but that I understand others...that will assist me out of my loneliness.

Magnolia

This thread is TOO FUNNY!

I'm smiling from ear to ear after reading all the above posts.

:D

magnolia is one of my favourite films !

Lonesome Crow...

I see. I'm even starting to understand you, to be honest.

That's pretty amazing! I've not encountered this while online, before you!

A lesson in how to unrestrict thinking and broaden our sense of written and spoken communications. As for being a walking spell-checker, erm...yes! I'd have to admit to being a touch anal-retentive about English spelling and grammar, while not always following the rules of them, even myself. I should loosen up, a little! Talk to us some more!

Thanks.

Hey, intriguing list with some I definately have not seen as yet.
The only book I could suggest to yourself follows the theme of the forum: Party of One - The Loners' Manifesto, by Anneli Rufus.
I have only managed to read the foreword and intro on google books but it sounds as though she has "real" first hand experience.

Hope this is of use to you and please keep the film lists coming if you can, helps to break the day up!!!!

All the best

Thanks for the suggestion and reply, i love the escape and common ground that i get from these films, ill every now and again drop some suggestions, some that i have watched recently are:

O'Horten (really like this film)

Scenes from a marriage (how lonely it can get from a relationship, "the lonely life of a married couple")

Far North

Great list. All of my favourites are there. I can add Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" and Scorsese's "Bringing out the Dead".
There are a lot of great books about loneliness. Dostoevsky, Sartre, Kafka, Bukowski, Maugham, Hemingway wrote about loneliness. Especially Maugham and Sartre.

Thanks for reply and book suggestions, glad you like the list, seventh seal is a great mention for this list thanks. Will definitely check out "Bringing Out the Dead".

I know this is not a film neither a book (well there is a book for it). But there's a great Anime/Manga series called Welcome to the N.H.K that is directly involved about the lives of people suffering loneliness, social problems, social anxiety, depression and such. You should definitely google and read the plot on Wiki, I'm sure many of you can relate. The first episode is extremely weird, so if you do watch it, don't judge it on that. You can find all the episodes on youtube.

Guys check out the "Mr.Bean" series, its British Slapstick comedy (i relate to it so much in terms of loneliness), its about a man living with loneliness and the antics he gets up to. Its like little silent sketches, but worth a watch for all the lonely's out there, its an uplifting take on it.
