I wanted to know if you guys had certain goals for yourselves, and what those goals are. It seems that having some sort of goal gives you a reason to live, and even if you are lonely, that goal will keep you moving along.

On another note, I wanted to offer a suggestion - mentoring youth in your community. While we certainly cannot consider youth as part of our friend circle, it is very rewarding to mentor a young person who may come from a disadvantaged background. There are many children out there who have been victims of violence or may come from a low income family, and they really need our help. If everyone in this forum just pitched in 2 hours a week to help those children, think about what a difference we could make in their lives.

My main goal, is to find the reason to live. I have one right now, to take care of my mother cos she's the reason I haven't given up. But I'm still looking for more reasons to believe it's worth fighting everything else for this...life. Yeah..

Other goals that I may have don't seem to matter cos they don't seem as important right now.

And yes, that's a great suggestion. :)

.
Well a few years ago I got some counseling when I was done and out, and it was suggested that I set some goals to acheive. The first goal was to stop drinking alcohol, second was to start looking after myself and my home, another goal was to do small tasks each day, and to get motivated, next was to get a job, I have achieved all of these goals, and I feel alot better for it. But I keep on setting myself goals, some might just be small, But I do get alot of satifaction when I achieve them.

This is pretty much what I'm holding out for as well. To find my purpose on this Earth.
All those other goals like "get a job" and "make some friends" etc pale in comparison for me.

goals mmm,, maybe this is what am missing. I have a nice place and food to eat and every material thing any one could wont realy.

What goals shod I set up for myself? I have none. Every day just leads into another. My goal is just to be happy. Most of the times I am reasonably happy guy just sometimes I get so for down I wish I was not hear, and that when am not happy. But I never know what would make me happy. So if I don't know who dose. A better body would be good. But thats something I can not change.

God am doing some rambling latly. Am realy going to have to work on that lol just thinking out loud you see haha

Exactly.

I've grown up in a horrible neighborhood. Gangs, drugs, shootings, etc... My whole life I've had to hear "no one from around here can ever make it outta here" and other non-encouraging things . In fact, the reason I'm so lonely is because all my friends have given in to that type of lifestyle. Anyways, I'm in college right now and am 2 years away from graduating with a major in electrical engineering. My main goals are to graduate and prove everyone wrong. Even more important, it's to show my nieces and nephews that it definitely IS possible...

Your teachers actually made bets on how long you would last?! That is very sick. I can't believe people like that are even allowed to become teachers. I'm glad you proved them wrong.

You should be very proud of yourself. You needn't prove everyone wrong, as long as you are graduating for yourself and because you want to do it. You are a great role model for your nieces and nephews.

Mentoring youth is a wonderful suggestion. I would not do it personally because I am afraid to try to help people, especially young impressionable people.

I have a million and one goals. I want to finish college and go into my field of study - archeaology. I stay very busy..which is how I combat any signs of loneliness.(I don't have time to think about it). And if/when I do feel out of sorts..I volunteer my time to help out at my local hospital and nursing homes. Doing for others in need does two things. It helps you feel good about yourself..and you get to meet really nice people along the way. It's not a cure all for everything..but believe me it helps!

Yeah, it's definitely an awesome feeling helping others and then meeting the nicest people around who just makes your day. :) Archeaology is really cool, when i was younger i've thought of wanting to be one. If not i actually thought of wanting to be a curator or a historian even. Lol..anything to do with ancient stuff :D
