Hi there, just stopping by to introduce myself after lurking for a few days and reading lots of posts. This place seems friendly and helpful.
I live in a small country town in Australia, I'm a 42 year old guy, single and always been a bit of a loner.
A couple of months ago on a Saturday night, home alone googled up the question 'why do I prefer my own company?', or something like that, and I found some online personality tests which I filled out and got very high Avoidant Personality results. All of a sudden I went from thinking I was just wierd to realising I wasn't alone. Until then I'd never even heard of AvPD. It's highly unlikely I'll ever go and get a diagnosis one way or another but it doesn't matter anyway because I'm happy enough, just a bit lonely.
I do work, been at the same place for 25 yrs now and that's where I do 95% of my talking to other people. On a day off I can go the whole day just talking to my dog or some family who live close by. If you don't have a wife and kids or get drunk in the pub here you just disappear into the background, which suits me just fine. ( typical AvPD behaviour).
Funnily enough I do find a lot of things to do alone when I'm not working, but it's just as well I work long hours or maybe I'd run out of things to do in a hurry haha
Anyway just saying g'day and maybe bump into some of you on the forum sometime, thanks for reading.
