I'm short and stocky guy.
I'm only about 5"9 and weigh around 250-260. So I'm a bigger guy.

I've always had relatively low self-esteem and find it difficult to make new friends. I have my close circle and thats about it. I have an IT guy type of personality, so its just mostly dumb humor.

I never have anything interesting to say and I cant tell a story to save my life.

What do?

I don't think 5'9 is considered short in my opinion. Why don't you do something about your weight? I did and it did me a lot of good considering my self-esteem and confidence.

Hey, at least you have your close circle, I don't even have one.

Its mainly the way we think, our social skills aren't at their strongest; it takes time and many tries to finally figure out a way to make interesting conversation.

I've been working on the weight. I'm down from 285 at the beginning of the year, and I'm going for broke and trying to get under 200 by the end of my first year at college. It seems unreasonable, but I seriously lost that first 25-30 pounds within 2-3 weeks because i was going to a gym 2 hours a day for 5 days a week. but work took over and i cant really make time for the gym right now (I work in a local restaurant) so I might actually be up to 270 again, but who knows. The restaurant operates for 3 seasons and I have no problem maintaining my weight when its closed. but with college starting up, my car is going to be a mile off campus, and im going to be walking everywhere for the most part, along. and then i'll only work summers. I'm done with work in 2 weeks :D

as far as the circle goes, it's about to be split up. I'm the only one I know going to my school, so I NEED to suck it up and meet new people. I'm not anti-social. But legitimately boring. I'm not funny (people make a conscious effort to tell me im not funny), I dont really have any good stories to tell, and im HORRIFYING when it comes to small talk.

Do the best you can with what you got. Keep on trying! Its np if your social circle is going to split up, you can find another one.

Good luck my friend.

I agree with Ak5 you're height is nothing to worry about, but try working on your weight. It's not going to be easy but you can do it. You'll look better and feel better...which do wonders for the self esteem.

As a fellow IT guy, i know what you mean by that type of personality. It can be lame at times, so try to be different. When you're shy, but want to make friends...you're going to have to go out of your comfort zone. I know it can be tough, but I found out that people aren't as scary as you think they are. Give it a try, you might end up like me and wonder why you were so shy for no reason.
