I moved to London a few years ago and met my future wife, but have recently had to leave my job to be stay-at-home dad, and now I am stuck at home with the kids. I love my kids but find being at home very lonely, I go to all the nursery's and libraries when 'stay and play' sessions are on; but all the parents are female and I feel like a leper in those environments. I take the kids to the park hoping to bump into a dad with his kids, but its rare. I miss socialising at work, and not having any male friend's in London is driving me insane, I have a few male friends but they live far away and its rare that we see each other. Any advice would be great.

London is the capital of loneliness! I believe there is no other place in the world that favours alienation like London does, although it depends on the area where you live too. Online groups for stay at home dads? Sorry about the leper thing, hopefully in some years it won't be such a special situation anymore, kudos to you for being one of the firsts anyway. Get your wife/partner to work one day less during the week so you can have one "guys" day? (or meet new male friends) sorry this is lame advice, can't come up with anything better at the moment.

Welcome to the site.

It's clear this is something that's new to you, and I believe some people adapt to most situations. Perhaps finding hobbies and trying to meet new people when you don't have your kids or something? It's a difficult situation, especially if you're used to working.

Thanks for the advice, I think I used the word 'leper' uncorrectly, its is just hard being surrounded by mums and babies all day (everyday). Some of the mums are great to talk too, but we never meet outside of the nurseries. I terms of hobbies, there is no time; I used be a very keen runner but now I can only get out of the house for the odd thirty minutes for the odd jog. I miss going to the pub, but as I dont know anyone I hate the idea of just sitting at the bar by myself staring at the wall. Anyway, thats my moan for the day.

Yes!

How old are you? I'm a Londoner. Where about do ya live? PM me! :D

lol, way too old! :D but I lived in London between age 20 and 23, and I remember the pain (and the awesomeness, but it wasn't worth it)
