i'm sure you have a job and/or a life, possibly responsibilities even organized into priorities, but that doesn't matter, because i need some hand holding on this laptop purchase STAT :D

based on some quick research i have conducted, i may go with either an Asus or a Toshiba, largely based on claims of hardware reliability. i also looked at Apple, although they seem very nice and reliable, i don't think i have the money to spend up front for one unfortunately.

so, i am interested in the following two...you can click on the links and see the specs, i think they meet all of your recommendations as far as hardware, memory, and speed goes. not sure though. will you give them a once over and see if they pass the mintyfreshness test?

Asus - Model G60JX-RBBX05

Toshiba - Model A505-S6033

maybe these two are overkill, but they look pretty nice. also, if anybody else has experience with these, feel free to comment, not that you need me to tell you that! LOL :D

Toshiba Satellites are extremely durable. At least mine is. Mine has been dropped, hit, bumped, traveled, I've even spilled water into the keyboard area. Still works. I've had it for about 4 years now, and it still runs. Maybe not as great as my desktop or other laptops, but that's because when I bought it, I had no idea what I was looking for. If I were to buy a new laptop today, I'd get the Toshiba one. Mine hasn't failed me on its own. Anything wrong with it is because I haven't taken the greatest care of it like I should have.

Good job getting my attention JSD :p

The ASUS: Sweet graphics card. But not very portable @7.5lbs (although I know you are beefy as hell so it wouldn't matter)

The Toshiba: Powerful quad core cpu, but you pretty much give up hope on good battery life. I'd say two hours with light to moderate use compared to 3-4 on the ASUS. Certainly not the worst, but still unremarkable graphics card. A little lighter.

If you're cool with the heft, they both would be acceptable. If you are an average user you won't see much difference in performance with day to day use. The key is whether or not you run programs that would leverage the extra power of the quad core. My guess is you don't:p My only gripe with them is the display resolution. I would never buy anything with a 15" or larger screen with a 1366x768 resolution. Just not enough real estate on the screen. You should check your current screen resolution and compare just to make sure you can live with it.

I also did a quick search restricted to those two brands and came up with a few possible alternatives.

1. An ASUS basically the same as yours but a little cheaper.
2. An ASUS basically the same as yours but with a nice large high resolution display.
3. A quad core Toshiba with a sweeter graphics card than the one you posted.

I know no one asked for MY advice.... -_- lol but I would go for the Toshiba that minty suggested:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114803

But I'm a RAM whore, so I'd upgrade that. :p You probably won't need to up the memory unless you're doing something ungodly with it, though. General-to-sorta-rough usage would be fine with this setup. :)

Those are my 2 pence.
