This is a forum for loneliness. Loneliness is why most people came to this site. That's why I came here. I may not be lonely at the moment, but I know the sting of loneliness quite well, and I came here to understand that sting and maybe figure out how to cope with it.
However, I have come across people in my life who like to make sweeping statements about topics that they have no personal experience with. For instance, I know people who have never been depressed who pontificate about depressed people being "lazy" or "weak," and this lack of understanding colors their ignorant comments. I've also heard from people, who have never experienced loneliness, who tell me how easy it is to "cure" loneliness. Such ignorance is, if not irritating, outright laughable.
So, I put it to you: How much weight do you give to the words of people who have experienced the very thing you suffer from? How should we, as a society, respond to people who make uninformed comments about things they know little about?
