Not currently in the process of quitting right now, but i did thrice before. For me it was always just a sudden decision to quit when in the right mindset i guess.

Definitely avoid alcohol aswell early on, cause two out of three the reason i started again involved alcohol.

Every time I had an urge for a smoke, I would drink a large glass of water. Not sure it there are any sciences behind it - but that is what worked for me. Strangely, after drinking the water, I lost my urge for a smoke and moved on with my day. Good luck to you 🍀
My older sister who quit long ago gave me the same advice. Drinking enough water is a challenge for me too because I don't particularly like it. But it is the best way to flush toxins and promote cell repair. Thank you!
 
This is quite a message, thank you for both the tips and support. My problem is not stopping, it's staying stopped.
There's a way I was told that would help to stay off the ciggies and it's not for everyone but you could try. Basically if your off ciggies and you have a craving then start to tell yourself that if you touch another ciggie then a family member or someone really close will lose one year off their life! You won't know which family member but one of them loses a year off their life everytime you light up! Obviously it's not really gonna happen but you can train yourself be petrified of lighting up. I tried it for a few weeks but ended up getting wracked with guilt when I did light up. I didngnkadt long but it could work if your looking for different approaches. Hope this doesn't offend you. Good luck though whatever u try. You'll get there, just keeping staying positive.
 
It's hard. And it sucks ...a lot at first.

I quit 7 years ago. Cold turkey. I went from smoking nearly a pack a day (was going through major stress at the time) to nothing. I only quit because I started to have breathing issues - something I had never experienced before. And given the high amount of stress I had in life at the time. Figured it'd be best to put down the cigarettes. The first week was the absolute worst.
All I wanted to do was sleep.. getting over the fact that I wasn't going to have my coffee with a cigarette in ne morning anymore and after meals was really hard. But I kept on truckin'
Quitting was the worst , but because it was so arduous and laborious of a task - is the reason I stay away and haven't gone back to them.

I still think about smoking a cig to this day....that feeling sometimes never goes away..you crave it sometimes out of nowhere..but it's such a pain in the *** to stop that its just not worth picking up the habit again..for me.
 
I quit cold turkey several years ago. It was the right place, the right moment. It lasted a year.
I might quit again, but not in the foreseeable future. It isn't the right time yet.
 
I smoked for 6 years before I quit.
Withdrawals feel like an anvil on your chest.
Nicotine Fits are real.

I tried the patch and it didn't do anything for me.
Mostly just felt uncomfortable.

Tried the gum, it tasted good, but went through it about as fast as a pack of cigarettes with no difference.

I had to ween myself down off of it. Meaning that I had to bring math into it.
Gradually started to eat more but that's okay because I can lose weight later, I can't go buy a new lung later, was my rationale at the time.

I was chronically pissed off and moody for like 2 or 3 months until the withdrawals subsided.
And I was oh so very tired and lethargic.

I didn't even realize I was addicted to smoking until I tried to quit, was the thing.
And now that it's been this long since I smoked, my body just can't handle it anymore.
Just like when I quit drinking, now I can't really handle drinking anymore.
