Is it me or is it frankly bizarre that the only left wing news channel available in the UK is a Russian State funded one?

That is odd. I don't know about the UK in particular but I used to read and watch RT frequently for their perspective. It's easy to get a right wing outlook with most other news channels. RT can be just as ridiculous, if not more so at times though.

It's more amazing that a supposedly "free" media is so bad that people in the west would rather trust the Kremlin over the White House.

A lot of important thinkers from the left never get on mainstream media in the west. You wouldn't see Noam Chomsky, David Graeber or Richard Wolf on the BBC or Fox News

Heh well Fox News isn't so much a "news" channel as it is an example of how to suppress free speech by spewing a constant stream of industrial-grade ********. It's so much ******** it takes pride in being ignorant and bigoted - calling out their obvious stupidity just gives them more strength.

To be fair, Chomsky knows that if he did go on a mainstream news network, he'd be cast as a leftist butt monkey. That's the problem though, people on the margins of society aren't just ignored, they're made the punchlines of jokes. The mainstream is basically a lighter version of Fox News in that regard, where being blatantly wrong and proud of it is the point, though Foxnews takes it to a whole other level of unreality. RT/Putinvision just has to sit back and let speakers from the margins loose, and gain instant viewership.

It used to be fun for me to try to de-******** media, but lately it's been depressing with the dreck that passes for "news". Russia makes it funny, at least.

I have never seen much about Russia or any Russian TV but last week stumbled across this BBC series of 3 documentaries which I found interesting

An illustration of a minority or representative of the country's mindset I wonder?

I can't view it as I'm not in the UK, but I doubt everyone in the world's largest country has a 'far right nationalist' mindset. The program is titled Extreme Russia which is probably a clue...
