There are billions of people in the world, and yet I am alone. Is that not maddeningly, depressingly absurd?!

Well it depends on how you see loneliness.

Some consider phone calls, emails, letters, and gifts great company.

You're obviously thinking of someone's physical presence.

In which case, yes, it's absurd that there's 6 billion people on this planet and you haven't found a single one to be acquaintences with at least.
Makes me wonder why that hasn't happened yet (not that I'm one to talk). Care to share? :D

I'd hang out with you if there wasn't an ocean between us :p

It's funny how we're made to take so many worthless classes in school.
But we're never taught how to deal with life's most miserable and pervasive problems.

Eh, I agree. So many people in the world why can't I connect with someone. Used to think that. But loneliness is like a force field around me. People tend to stay away since I don't let anyone in.
