What's the longest you've gone without work (since turning 18)?

1 year. I got a job in a factory, which lasted a few weeks and then I quit. Bummed around for a year, moved away, came back and got a job within 2 weeks. Worked there for a year and am now in my electrical apprenticeship for about 2 and a half years now.

Ummm.... if we are going strictly based off age I went 3 years during college without a job.

Technically, the years I spent as a stay at home mom have been unpaid, unless you count pb&j kisses and clingy hugs as legal tender. So, 10+ years.

My parents made me earned everything I have.
Started working way before that.

errr..that means I've been working for more than half of my life
and longer than some poeple have been on planet earth.

You forgot stress, stress you can do nothing about. That is another wonderful thing about work. It intrudes on your private life and can make life miserable.

no seriously, if it gets to be may, my birthday, i will have been out of work for a year.
i think i might loose it around the end of april if i still havent found anything...

A few months. When I hit 18 I got my first job in December working for UPS helping their driver deliver packages. A few weeks after that I landed a slot in a saw mill; I couldn't STAND that. Stayed there for a month before going to work out in the woods where I stayed for two years...we'd be laid off for the winter with the exception of snow removal in the winter. But it was always there to come back to in the Spring. Then I was hired by a local fire department.

They laid all of us off in February. I don't know what I'll do if I don't get on somewhere else. I'm taking college courses still and have a bit of part time work but I really miss my fire job. The last night of my last shift there was heart wrenching. I remember after everyone else had gone to bed, I just lingered out in the truck bay for a bit. Finality hit me like a freight train as I sat one last time in the driver seat of my ambulance, and I will admit to crying. I miss my paycheck. I miss my purpose. I miss my partner, Dale. I miss Willard's exasperated sigh when he realized I'd eaten the cookies he left on the counter.

Seriously considering the navy, or wildland fire instead.
