I do know that it gets better by College/University. I do feel confident that I will make friends. I've thought about using me being "the new guy" as a way to make conversations and get to spend time with people. I would ask them what they do, get to know them, and then gradually start increasing the amount of social interaction and finally ask them to show me around town and stuff. That way I would be going out with them and it will be an excellent start.

Oh and about them using me, it has happened before during Middle School. They would NEVER talk to me except on an important assignment. A situation I know too well unfortunately.

I think the "new / different guy" thing works very well in a lot of places, especially in the US.
In the US, having an accent is considered awesome. Man I tell you, in Denmark, the response is exactly the opposite, which is pretty sad. We are a bit of a nationalist country I guess :(

Its a good plan. You might have some difficulty, still, because the entire introduction part does take some skill too - but again, you will get better. It is important to find a group that's focused on something in common with you; I'm sure not if you're particularly focused on the sciences or the arts, but you might find some group where you can share enough common knowledge to get an 'in' as well.

Its amazing how nice some girls are just when they want something from you, but of course, its not like they remember your name otherwise, no? Of course, its not just limited to women - I wonder if its partly because they, too, don't know how to approach us except to figure that 'we should talk to him because he is the smartest guy about this...otherwise, he's too weird/unusual/whatever'?

And thanks Pheenix & AK for giving me a chance to help someone who was in my position.
