Um.... Hey there

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but well here goes..

I'm an 18 year old waiting for enrolment into high school. I have about 2 months more of holiday to go before school starts, and have spent the past 2 months working at the local supermarket.

Here's the issue.
I'm the only 'part timer' who works 8 hour shifts, occasionally more than that, and works at the fresh meat counter (live slicing beef, chopping chicken and grilling chicken)
Other part timers get 5 hours and just stack goods.
Don't worry, I get paid accordingly, with a fair share of overtime.

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of what I have learnt during these two months.
However I'm getting physically sick this past month, coughing, stuffy noses, feverish chills,
All of that jazz from the common cold (at least I think that is what it is)

I've seen my doctor twice, still not perfectly back to normal, even with sick leaves.

Should I quit my job? Because honestly sleeping at 1.30 am after an Afternoon shift after washing an entire oven filled with 20 or so greasy racks and waking up at 6.30 to slice beef isn't doing wonders for my health.

In addition, because I'm from a rather conservative Asian country, they believe in 'hard work', so I turn up even if I'm dead tired and sick.
After all, if I don't work, someone's gonna have to do my job, even though I'm a part timer and am supposed to just 'help out', so I feel guilty when I leave early or take sick leaves, even though I'm legitimately sick.

I've been called useless and weak, which I guess is true because how on earth is a teen of 18 falling sick so easily just from working?

Should I quit?
The only reason that is holding me back is that my parents want me to work for the sake of working. And the extra allowance I get sure helps in High School.

What do I do? :/

TLDR: Part Time treated like Full Time, physically sick from work but hesitant to quit.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate your comments :)

Maybe you could find a different job? Or could you speak to the manager and ask to do the same work and same hours as the other part timers? Some people are simply more prone to coming down with colds and other infections and it isn't a sign of weakness. Besides, you need to be well to be able to concentrate on your school work when school begins again and so a less physically demanding job makes perfect sense.

I agree, but considering that I'm only 18, is there any other way to improve my resistance?
I can't go out and serve my mandatory army service, much less work if I'm THAT weak right?

Vitamin supplements and a good eating regime. And maybe see your doctor to see if you have a weak chest or something which makes you more prone to colds.
