I've seen how much damage it can do to people to stay together when one has cheated - but I've also seen how people who love each other can overcome this and grow stronger together. So it really depends on the people involved and the situation.

Yes, it's a deal-breaker.

My significant other and I have both discussed it. If one of us ever cheats, the other has to pull the plug on the relationship -- no matter how difficult it might be. Faithfulness is part of the foundation in a relationship. Once that trust is broken, it leaves room for relentless paranoia. It would be mental and emotional turmoil to constantly question the person that you should be able to trust the most.

I should really watch what I say, or at least follow my own advice.

ah, yes. cheating. a complex subject indeed.

i'm inclined to say that yes, that would be a deal-breaker. if i'm going to be with someone, one of the main reasons for it is because i actually trust them. for someone to betray my trust in them by cheating on me is just... absurd.

plus, it hurts to be betrayed. nobody likes the bitter taste of betrayal.
