I read into it a little yesterday and decided to sponsor a young kid in Albania.

Some people go on about the money not getting used/wasted etc but i think it's just an excuse to cop out.

Besides, am hardly gonna miss a few less pints every month to benefit the life of some kid and their community.

I remember my grandparents sponsored a child somewhere in South America (I don't remember what agency it was through), but the kid did write to them and things like that.

I'm always leery of my money going to overhead and staff salaries when I give to charity.

That's why I prefer to give or assist on my own, rather than through a large "non-profit" organization.

The one i am using says 83.1% of the money goes directly to the child and local community, whilst 16.2% goes on fundraising and 0.7% on administration.

But yeah i get ya on that point. I've only ever really given to the local Salvation Army boys or paid for yearly memberships.

This be the first time i have given to a charity nationwide and/or worldwide.

I have given to the deaf children on a monthly basis - but was wary about the percentage the children actually get, So well done Pogs and thanks for stating that its actually quite a good percentage the child receives themselves.

Application for a volunteer position now in the post.

We can all make a difference for a little of our time and money!

I'm with you on this Badjedidude- there are a few "disadvantaged" kids that I know in the area who've been appreciative of the extras (even the necessities on a few occasions) they wouldn't otherwise have. By no means do I see myself as some great humanitarian but I do bleed when I see kids going without.

I thought the subject said child censorship at first, derp.

That's a good thing to do, my mom used to do it before she had my brother and I. She always said it was a very rewarding thing to do, especially when she'd get pictures back and letters knowing what her donation was able to help the child with.
