Had a conversation with my friend this morning. She has just ended a relationship and it is not long since I was conversing with the guy from the internet and who repeatedly cancelled on me.

She firmly believes that everything happens for a reason. I don't and what happens, happens. That sometimes we make our own luck or bad luck by our actions.

I am curious to know what other people believe.

I believe that things happen for a reason but I don't have a lot of faith in it. In my life, it tends to translate into not getting something I really want, therefore I'm in a position to accept something else that I'm unsure about.

I do believe things happen for a reason. If you look back down the line, that reason often becomes clear in hindsight, whether it's months, years or even decades later.

I do think that everything happens for a reason but in the most literal sense possible. "Reason" does not equal higher purpose or meaning. It's just cause and effect. For every action there's an opposite reaction.

I, more or less, believe this. However, I also think it's a choice. If you look hard enough, you can almost certainly find a reason something happened. But, if you choose not to look, you won't.

It is indeed. That's often when rationalization happens, cause many people have an issue just accepting that not everything makes sense. Or that there is no outer force working specifically against them just to ruin their life.

In other words: "If you don't see the conspiracy, you are just not looking hard enough."

I just read back and don't think my explanation of my friends belief was detailed enough. She believes in fate and destiny, that you might have been late to avoid an accident. That kind of reasoning.

Fate or destiny are alluring ideas, aren't they? Especially when talking about human relationships. It can be romantic to think - "If I didn't decide at that moment to go to the grocery store to buy bread and he didn't decide at that moment to go in and buy a lottery ticket, we wouldn't have met. It must be fate." Thinking about fate or destiny can add a special shine to a relationship.

I don't believe in it though. I don't think there is some unseen force guiding us human mammals to pre-determined destinations nor is there a supervising force that could make us late thereby avoiding an accident. That's just luck.

I do not believe it, it sounds as "sweet resignation". Life is not fair.

Well i will replace the word "Everithing hapens with areason " with everithing its folowed by energy .You see everithing come to you by the energy that you give in the universe .By being a bad person later on this bad energy that you transmit it will come to you back and the reverse its also available

I believe everything happens for a reason,it's just sometimes we don't know what that reason was until a long time after the event.

I don't know if everything happens for a reason but I feel like we are sort of trapped in like a river and there are forces beyond our control nudging us all the time. If you feel like doing something in your gut, I think you should do it. I have had many experiences already in my life where my gut was screaming at me to do something, I did it, at the time I did it I was bummed out, and then like 10 years later I was amazed at what happened and how happy I was have listened to my gut.

That's exactly what I think, and I really like your river analogy. We can affect the outcome by how we swim, but much is beyond our control.

Not being able to find a reason for something happening does not mean there is no reason for it to be happening. It means you do not know the reason. Look up the term Causation.

^what this fella said.

I used to think that everything happened for a reason. But some people just live there hole lifes out in pain.
Mental pain or physical pain. Its still horrid.

What possible reason is there for a baby to die when only a few days old?
For someone to take mouths to die in huge amounts of pain from cancer?
I think most of us here would have seen the huge amounts of people in 3ed world countries being bombed, children and adults starving to death.
There is no reason for this misery. People end up in pain and course other people pain because of it. Its like a cancer.

I do believe however that maybe even if you dont see why all this stuff happens in this life. Maybe the spirit lives forever and it happens so you can better yourself to go to another place. Just maybe. I still have that glimmer of hope deep with in that my spirit is only here because I wonted it to be here to make myself a better entity. Just maybe..... Keep hope alive.
