This isn't meant to be a debate thread about the flu-shot, but I want to strongly advise and encourage everyone to get their flu shot this season.

For those of you planning on getting it, GET IT NOW!!!!

I'm on the verge of completely losing my voice. Hurts to eat, drink, swallow, and breathe. After having umpteen headaches, chills, body aches, and fevers -- I wish I had gotten the shot (d).

If this keeps up by Saturday, I'll be going to the doctor.

Be healthy and safe this flu season, everyone.

P.S.

Wash your hands everywhere you go! Or carry around those miniature sanitizer wipes or liquid cleansers.

Iwas feeling like that too this week. I feel better now but it was UNBEARABLE.

awww ): get better

I got the flumist where they spray up the nose, hopefully it does the same damage ;)

There's a slight chance of getting very adverse side effects from the flu shot, but it's rare. That's why it's such a big deal and headlining news when someone does die from it.

I plan to get my flu shot this year. I would have it already, but my doctor's office ran out when I went. I've been getting the flu every year for the past 3 years and I'm tired of suffering that kind of agony. After a while, you wish someone comes along to shoot you in the head :p

A lot of people do get a touch of the flu from the shot, but not the full on onslaught you'd get without it.

I haven't had the flu/cold for a while.
Immune system has been good lately (h).

Seems like you get sick a lot,
Sounds terrible,
Hope you get better soon :(. (hug)

DON'T get the flu shot. The shot GIVES you the flu. And the chance you'll get sick without it, by naturally getting sick with the flu, is slim to none.

I haven't gotten the flu shot in years, and I haven't been flu-sick since.

I dunno, I got the flu shot last year - and I didn't get the flu. No adverse side-effects other than a lil pinch in the arm.

School sucks. Once something starts going around, it's like lighting a match to gasoline -- everyone gets it. :/

I'm sorry, but the flu shot definitely does NOT give you the flu. That's simply not true, because the shot doesn't contain any active flu virus in it.

This is true, it's weakened and half dead.

And people get sick all the time, and if they want something to blame for their illness, the flu shot might seem like a convenient target, when in fact it had nothing to do with their illness.

If I go ride my bike today, and later in the night get a stomach virus, does that mean that riding a bike causes stomach viruses?

Of course there are some possible/rare side effects, which is true of EVERY medication/vaccine ever invented.

Yes it does. It contains the influenza strand in it. I suppose everyone is different, but it usually makes you sick anyway.

And comparing a bike ride to a flu shot makes no sense.

But the flu strand in it is inactive, it can't give you the flu.

I'm not sure why it made you sick, maybe you had an allergy to the shot, or some other side effect? Because I can't image how the shot could actually give you the flu.

I, and everyone in my family, get the shot every year and no one has ever gotten sick from it.

*hugs shells*

I'm sorry you're not feeling well I hope you get better soon

this is great advice

for the love of god everyone wash your hands with soap every time you use the rest room and before you eat

I had to put up a picture of matt damon in the bathroom to remind my roomate to wash her hands

SHE SHALL WASH HER HANDS OR FEEL MY POETIC WRATH!

I got a flu shot last week

I also got the flu shot and h1n1 shot last year, and it turned out alright

these habbits are very important for staying healthy over the next couple of cold months ahead,

as well as stopping the spread of germs to anyone else

* The "flu shot" — an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions.

* The nasal-spray flu vaccine —a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for "live attenuated influenza vaccine" or FluMist®). LAIV (FluMist®) is approved for use in healthy* people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant.

Vaccine Side Effects (What to Expect)

Different side effects can be associated with the flu shot and LAIV.
The flu shot: The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Some minor side effects that could occur are:

* Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
* Fever (low grade)
* Aches

If these problems occur, they begin soon after the shot and usually last 1 to 2 days. Almost all people who receive influenza vaccine have no serious problems from it. However, on rare occasions, flu vaccination can cause serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions.

But the CDC could be lying :p So, if you don't mind getting the flu, or you don't normally get it, don't get the shot. It won't change a thing.

I'm sorry for everyone who's sick. : (

(I'd hate to rip open Pandora's Box and start a barrage of arguments, but I do not recommend anyone get any vaccine. People can research why this is, I won't argue it here. It is just my opinion that people should consider the alternative.)

I WANT THE FLU

I have this radical idea that sickness updates my immune system by helping my body to create new immunities against sicknesses and new emergent strains of illnesses. I also don't trust my government when it starts giving out "free shots" for ANYTHING. Ummm how about NO. Call me paranoid.

Besides, those shots are synthetically created, and contrary to popular belief, they DO NOT prevent the flu. All they do is bolster weakened immune systems (the very old and very young) so that when you DO get the flu, you won't automatically DIE from it.

^^^I didn't mean to sound like an ass, I was just giving my view of it. :p

If you feel you need it, by all means, get it! :D

Thanks for the well meaning advise but I'm completely against it. I think is all about business.
