Hey, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not but I've been dealing with a lot recently.
I really shouldn't feel the way I feel but I found this forum and decided to give it a try. I'm a married mom of a 3-year-old. I'm originally from DC, went to school in CT, and came back to the DC area to settle down and stuff.
I guess what's wrong is that a lot of my friends that stayed around from high school and what not aren't around any more and have moved away. Also, the college friends that I made are still far far away in CT so I don't see them... pretty much ever. I've switched jobs 3 times since I came home from college 5 years ago, not really allowing me to settle into a work hangout scene. With a 3-year-old, it's pretty much impossible to just go out to the bars or wherever parents hang out when they don't have a kid parasitically attached to them 24 hours a day.
I'm also a huge geek of all trades. Music geek, computer geek, wrestling geek, Gleek geek, comics geek. So, I'm a little weird. Been told all my life that I'm weird. The only place I really felt I fit was in college. Makes sense cuz if you're accepted into a college, 9 times out of 10 admissions is gonna accept someone a lot like you. Not to mention the people in your classes, major, and other extra-curricular activities are probably gonna like the same or similar things.
So, I also said I'm married, right? I don't want this to come off as "My husband's a real jerk and it's a marriage of convenience" sorta deal. My husband is actually my best friend in the world. I don't know what I'd do without him. But at least he still knows some of his friends around our area. My closest friend lives in the Congo. That's right, Africa.
So I guess all I'm doing is trying to see what others in my sort of situation do. I've been really down on myself recently to the point where I unnecessarily blew up at my husband the other day and it's making me lose focus at work. And I'm not looking to just make "Facebook friends" or find Twitter followers. Just real good people that I can call in a crisis mode like I'm having now.
