I'm wondering, since most of us here are of various nationalities, does your country import a lot of their goods?

Here in the U.S. everything is imported, I've rarely seen something that says "Made in the U.S.A."

Discuss. :D

Walmart sucks. Our trade deficit is horrible. Most countries make a profit, we are gushing money.

3 of my Polaroids say made in the United Kingdom on them (granted some time ago now) and my dads car is British. I also have clothes made in the UK. Though yeah manufacturing has declined to an almost none existent level.

This whole "Made in X" is crap. Honestly if you investigate it more you'll find out some surprising things. I actually had this conversation with one of my wholesalers once. I'm not sure if this is the same everywhere but it is here. When I saw something that said "Made in Canada" I'd be more apt to buy it. Thing is, that doesn't nessessarilly mean the product was entirely made here. For the "Made in" stamp only the final product has to be assembled here.

For example, I sell a brand of power tools here that do have the "Made in Canada" stamp, but they aren't actually put together here. After the drill is assembled it is shipped back to Canada, the company puts their labels and whatever else they need to do, package it up and put it in a box and they are allowed to say it is "Made in Canada". All that stamp needs is for the final product to be assembled here, which is as simple as packaging it. I was really surprised by this, and it came from the guy who's supposed to be selling this stuff to me.

So really think twice about what you are buying if it is actually "Made in X".

^ Don't know about that, gotta have to check the FTC laws (here in the U.S. at least).
