A woman in Seattle who just won the lottery for one million dollars, owns two homes, lives in a million dollar waterfront home, and owns a brand new car is receiving assistance from the government to "survive". So she receives our tax money just because she has a low-income (although she lives in a million dollar home, a loophole in the law allows her to do this).

Article here: Michigan woman still collects food stamps despite winning lottery

What pissed me off is she said that she has a "right" to the money.

What. The. ****.

Got your facts a little messed up there. The woman who lives in the waterfront home lives in Washington. She won the lottery a while back.

Sorry for the mix up. I am deeply sorry. That's why I post the articles. :)

Still, millionaires are receiving government aid.

Despite Ak5s small faux pas logistically a quick google of Amanda Clayton reveals true greed- what a b***h.

Her house isn't really that great...and neither is her car..come on. I rent a house better than that for next to nothing.

But yeah taking from taxpayers is morally wrong but also...she's doing what she has to to survive. She doesn't look like she takes care of herself or is living an "extravagant" lifestyle. She's 24 years old and probably has a few kids too, put kids into any equation and the parents would kill for them.

lol, I wasnt cracking on him. :p Just clarifying that there was more than one who was ripping off the government. :p

Well, if you own a million dollars, you don't deserve taxpayer money!

And if your home is also of a million dollars, taking government money is ridiculous. I don't know if she owns the house completely or if its mortgage is underwater, if its the former, the government shouldn't allow giving money to someone who owns a million dollar home. Completely ridiculous.

@Eve - Crack on me. :p

In other news: Go go go State lawmakers!

That's nuts. Over here, my grandfather used to get a pension and...oh heck...what's it called...sorry brain fart, he got money for being in the military and getting injured. He was so cheap, he wouldn't spend is money on anything and liked going to flee markets. The government cut off his pension because he had so much money saved up, not millions either, just a few hundred grand.

wow.

Because he was saving his money...and what not spending it and putting into the economy like he's supposed to? Saving for his FAMILY? How terrible of him...

That's why they're making that bill to limit lottery winners. It's a loophole that wasn't such a big deal until now-that we're struggling so much and loads of people are sucking on the state because they're aren't enough jobs (or employers aren't hiring people but the overqualified ones...)

Basically she's stupid for talking to the press. She may have been struggling for awhile, used the money to get out of a crappy home into a decent one, bought a USED car and is stashing the money for her kids college. We don't know. I guess it's screwed up but that's what I'd do, too. No one ever gets a pat on the back for doing the right thing, why not try and survive when no one else ******* cares?

Again, not right, but this world's a bad place.

Technically she didn't win a million dollars. More like $500,000 cause of taxes. :)

That's one of the problems with lottery winners. They think they suddenly have an unlimited money supply and they spend it all and then can't figure out why they are now broke.
