I recently posted a few Frazetta paintings in the Favorite Paintings thread (thanks to Chair for starting it), but I wanted to take a moment and mention a few things about him. I think he has a lesson to teach us and it has very little to do with art.

He's currently 81 years old and has gone through a number of serious health problems since his early 50's. To start off, he went eight years with an untreated thyroid condition that left him exhausted and borderline psychotic. Doctors kept insisting that it was all in his mind and at one point even signed him up for group counseling sessions. It wasn't until a specialist finally recognized it as a real physical illness that he was able to correct it with medication.

More recently, a series of strokes almost killed him and left him suffering from micro-tremors in his right hand (the painting one). Instead of giving up and crawling into a hole, he taught himself to paint with his left.

He's been actively working since the 1950's and has produced more stuff than anyone can accurately count. Just last year, his painting of "Conan the Conqueror" was sold to a private collector for $1 million.

I admire good people that are hard to kill. He's kind of a warrior, not too far off from the sword wielding men and women that he paints.

If anyone cares, this is a pretty cool documentary:
