I love them both too. I maybe slightly prefer the De Niro one, in which Robert Mitchum appears as one of the detectives.

That sound right. Though later, watching "The Night of the Hunter" set me off on a Robert Mitchum run.
Never paid any attention to him before watching those two movies.
