I recently saw the trailers for Jurassic World and Star Wars Episode VII and they weren’t very exciting for me, but I am glad that we’re getting story continuations to movies we’ve come to love very much. I’ve been seeing though that the community’s opinion has been VERY mixed and I’ve been hearing the same, unoriginal complaints over and over: too much CGI, stupid designs, milking franchises, the original is better, etc.
I generally don’t care about what other people think, but somehow, I always manage to get pissed off whenever I see this stuff happen. Why is it that people need to compare a recent adaptation to a previous work? Why can’t they just enjoy, or at the very least, give a chance to the newest work of something they’ve liked for the longest time? Hell, I like the character Dracula and I gave Dracula Untold an opportunity, I like the Ninja Turtles and I gave their most recent film an opportunity. The movies suck, yes, but I give credit to the studios for trying something new. True, it would be even better if studios put more of their efforts for something fresh and original (like Interstellar), but you all get my point! Is it really that hard to take off the nostalgia goggles? Is it necessary to spoil your own entertainment? I bet the same thing is going to happen when Terminator: Genesis is announced.
