I bought a digital camera on my birthday last year. Just thought I would treat myself to something, never owned one before.

Nearly a year on and I've found myself a great new hobby. Perfect for me, it's a solitary pastime, no need for other people to spoil things. For years I always felt that something was missing from my life. I had hobbies but they never got me out of the house much and I didn't do any travelling at all. Every year I would say to myself 'go on an holiday this year' - but I never did, didn't seem any point. Nobody to go with and they seemed no point in going places and have nothing to do. Taking photo's is the perfect excuse !

I spent most of last year taking photo's of my own city. Last October I took a trip to a nearby city, enjoyed it and now I have plans to goto many more places. I have no transport so travelling is expensive and time consuming but I have been away a couple of times this week and really enjoyed myself. I'm off work next week as well so planning more trips.

So anybody feeling stuck or bored then I do really suggest photography as a great hobby to get you out of the house and in the fresh air !

I second this.

I started walking every day in an attempt to regain my physical fitness and maintain my mental fitness, but like you I have no transport and there's only so many times you can walk down the same streets/paths/walkways before it starts to get very old. I got myself a new camera and now I spend time taking pictures of my walks to break up the repetition.

I wouldn't say it's really my hobby and my photos are rubbish, but it's certainly something I enjoy.

Can't count the number of times I have recommended photography to people who are depressed, lonely, or generally feel something is missing from their lives.

That's great, is nice to have something fun to do outside. I've done it too in the past while feeling lonley, and I even got 2 or 3 really good pics xD

On my weeks off work I would play golf a few days and then the other days I would be stuck for something to do. I would go in town looking around the shops but it seemed so pointless. I would end up by the Friday laid on the couch falling asleep. And then it would be back to work.

Last week was so much better, I went to places I've never been. Most of my photo's aren't that good either but I do enjoy the process of taking them. Yesterday I went to this place, it's only a mile from where I live, I didn't even know it was there. I walked along the bank of the river and saw all this stuff, wrecked boats, old docks, a ferry waiting to go off. It was great !

Post some of your pictures anyway. It's always nice to see the pictures people take.

Never really thought about it but going out and shooting different things I see does alleviate feeling alone.

* refrains from making a '* refrains from making a "shooting different things" joke'*comment*

I think I just jumped the shark.

Went to a lovely little village called Robin Hoods Bay today !
Took some great photo's !
I also find people are more friendly in villages / countryside. People are always saying 'hello' - I spoke to this woman while I was waiting for a bus ! (she was 65 plus of course !)

I went up into the mountains at the weekend and found an old derelict (mostly flattened) mine. I'd love to go inside, but there's a giant steel door preventing access. Unfortunately, I went with someone else and neglected to bring my camera along, but I'm planning on returning with it as soon as I get the chance; there's some wonderful scenery up there.

I sent Kid an email showing her what zoom lens I want for Fathers Day.

- I also sent her my Amazon account and Visa card info....just in case her piggy bank is empty.

I totally get that.
For Mother's Day, I took Jaylen to Target to shop for a Mother's Day gift, lol. I told her I was fine, I didn't need anything but her, but she insisted. :p

I will

I'd love to see everyone's pictures too! Here is one of mine. I absolutely love taking nature photos. I want a decent camera when I am able to afford it. This pic was taken at a retreat I was at. I always go off on my own and take pics. I'm such an introvert..lol
