I feel similarly. Its difficult because at my/our age our state is simply sub optimal and indicative of a big defect. And the shame of that defect stops me from doing stuff on my own.

In a way its in my head, as Bobs uncle always traveled alone and he was fine. Regardless the defect is still there and real.

On the other hand i feel like sitting still is just making that defect persist and even grow, so i do try progressing towards going on vacation by myself. Maybe just a weekend away at first, who knows.

Sorry to blabber about myself on your thread. Another part of my defect. 😎

Then you are robbing yourself of a chance of happiness because something in you feels you don't deserve it. Just drop that mindset, seriously.

It's never too late to do what you want to do. I am only 30, so I'm younger than you are, but I finally broke out of my shell and am travelling across the US solo. It has been one of the best, most enriching experiences of my life. I got sick of just staying in my boring hometown year after year, and needed a change. Yes, it does get lonely at times seeing all the happy couples around me, but it's still better than staying at home by myself.

I'm an old guy. I moved from the USA to Ecuador a little more than a year ago. I travel alone too. Every place I've been, I've seen old people, young people, women, men, short, thin, tall, average, rich and so many other types of people. Some I spoke with, others, no interaction at all. But I figure that I'd rather chance the experience of knowing what places, people and things are like, by traveling there than being an even older man wishing I'd traveled while I was young and healthy enough to do so.

Today, every one of is older than we have ever been in all of our lives. Today, we're all that old. But there's a catch, too! Today all of us, everyone everywhere, is the youngest that we'll EVER BE AGAIN!

So, if you wanna sit, stuck where you are, you can do that and age in place. But a lot of life will pass you by in the meant time with others making memories of journeys taken and places seen. Staying stuck though, you can always enjoy wondering what might have been if only you'd taken a chance.

SE Asia, Thailand anyway, is an amazing place! I've been there and yes, there's *** that happens there. How else do they populate those places? But there's so much more that that too. You'll find what you seek. I lived in The Philippines for 3 years when I was in the Navy. I lived on and in the local economy. It was great! I've also visited Australia and loved it too! Ozzie, ozzie, ozzie! Oi, oi, oi! All these places I went alone but I met others once I arrived. I like solo travel, myself.
