..of the air.

The Grue migration came over today.
Thousands and thousands of cranes,
flying from their winter in N Africa and Spain northwards.

First you hear them, their 'gru gru' cry carries
for about 4 kilometres. Then you see them.
A trace like black smoke in the sky.
Rapidly - really rapidly - getting bigger and more defined.

They fly in V or Y formations

.... and break up to wheel and call - right over my house - and for miles around

Magnificent flyers

Few things compare to the excitement of this spring event. And it happens ever year!!
Just wish my camera were better so I could share the excitement with you as these magnificent creatures truly deserve

...I felt compelled to count all those birds in the big picture. There's about 456 of them, give or a take a few birds.

That's dedication😸. .and that was only one group. They were flying over for about 4 hours. On either side of the town, as well as overhead. There may be more today. . .

Great photos :)

The sky is so blue, here's hoping you see more today.
What an awesome sight :)

They are a truly inspiring sight. Apparently a lot came over on Friday when I was shopping in Cognac, so I might not be lucky today. I just love the way they make all the noise as they fly, and break apart and come back together like they are having a natter about the flight...where are the kids, is granddad keeping up... hope the nest is in good nick after the winter away. Silly really, they are just birds:D
