This is tough, because I don't like to listen to music very often. I do have my favorite songs and really only one over the top band, so I'll try to name a band from each of the genres.

1. The Beatles (my ultimate all time fave)
2. Children Of Bodom
3. Ronnie Milsap, although as a country band, The Clarkson Brothers
4. Busta Rhymes
5. Kansas

I have difficulty selecting from the classics, so I chose the first cassette tape I was ever allowed to have. I still have other faves, but I'm really stuck on these in the tops.

1. Clark
2. Venetian Snares (Rossz Csillag. . . and My Downfall)

Excellent. I really like their music as well and Clark's new album is so good.

In no particular order:
*Early manic street preachers
*The Smiths
*Joy Division
*Morrissey
*The Germs
*Black Flag

Stella, that's six bands. Fail. Love my LA punk - have you seen "the decline of Western Civilisation", when Darby is talking about finding a dead guy in their garden? For some reason I found that really funny.

Hey, Dayvan, I think you might be the one to ask, based off all the indy bands you're always listening to: Do you know any other groovy post punk bands that sound at all like the Sons and Daughters album "This Gift" Especially groovy girl fronted bands:

hmmm

You probably heard of Yeah Yeah Yeahs haven't you? I would check them out, but mainly tracks from their album 'Fever to Tell' is a great place to start. I have a feeling you have heard of them already.

Siouxsie and the Banshees will definitely be worth your time...
Spellbound -
Arabian Knights -

Liliput/Kleenex. Female fronted Swiss post punk band. I've always known them as Liliput, but it turns out they were named Kleenex first until they got into some legal issues with their name.
Beri Beri -

Essential Logic. Their ablum 'Fanfare in the Garden' is great. Might not be your type of thing though.
Aerosol Burns -
Quality Crayon Wax O.K. -

Bush Tetras. I never get sick of this track...
Can't Be Funky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLOcYLh3cNk

Erase Errata They are an all female post punk group from San Francisco that formed in the late 90s. I am really into them. Good stuff. Check out the albums Nightlife and At Crystal Palace.
Cruising - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kscBn0xuY4

The Slits. Essential listening IMO from the post punk genre. I think you have heard of them already.
Typical Girls - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyXGblps64M&feature=related

Sleater-Kinney Not post-punk or really groovy. Definitely high energy rock that is really well done.
Jumpers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT3Gl4haPNE

Love of Diagrams Formed in 2001. From Australia.
Pyramid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GYIExzQKY0
Check out the track 'Form and Function' as well. I can't find it on youtube.

Gang Gang Dance They are not post punk, but they are definitely groovy.
The song 'First Communion' should be listened at least once in everyone's lifetime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0VePHmc7iE The song gets cut off in this vid, but its the only thing I can find quickly for you. Definitely check out the full track when you have the chance.

Well I think that is all I got that I think you might enjoy :p I might add some more.

Thanks Dayvan. Actually haven't seriously listened to Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They're music is closest to the combination of sexy and rockin' that I was looking for. Downloading now. I'm not terribly well versed in the mainstream indy stuff. Probably 'cause most of what I listen to is either depressing or electronic.

No problem at all, luciddisconnect. I think you will really like Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

One track that I would consider sexy and rockin' is 'I Still Get Rocks Off' by Blonde Redhead. Most of their songs are more dream pop and shoegaze, but I think you'll dig.

Hello. :)
I really love:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Ludo
Modest Mouse
The Flaming Lips
Arcade Fire

(Oh, it'd be so easy to add more, but I think these are the ones I listen to most... )

heh. Read lucid's post before mine. They are recommendations for him. I posted my five one or two pages back :p

Dayvan Cowboy - NICE LIST, especially The Slits and X Ray Spex saxophonist. However, I think Luciddisconnect is looking for indie stuff - in which case, here is the Long Blondes:

If you want more indie pop, here's the Pipettes:

finally the Vivian Girls for a more twee sound:
