Seeing more and more scandinavians here. I am half norweigian. I have reliatives that apparently came from the area of Stalheim, Norway. One of my grandfathers had visited there a few times. On a few occasions over the years I have looked for some good english books on the history of that area and the country, but not really found anything. I have contacted the Stalheim Hotel one of the only locations in that area and they probably just think I am some fruit asking some of the questions I asked. I never got a response so they probably ignore anything that isn't asking for directions or a reservation. Anyone know of some good books or info that is in english?

Hmm surprising. I too have distant relatives in Norway. Unfortunately we have little contact with them. I guess that explains my culinary obsession with trout, potatoes and hot dogs though:cool:. We have a saying going around in the family too "Kaker er lagot av smør og kjærlight" (excuse me for my spelling, I don't know Norwegian all that well, I just know what my dad taught me) My father's side of the family comes from a line of famous Norwegian bakers. My father's cousin's halfbrother (lolwut) has already catered a few times for Harald V himself.

Anyway, I'm afraid I don't know that much about Norway myself. I do know that Norwegians are very, VERY shelled people. They are distant at first. Next time you try asking for information, you should engage in some small talk first. The times I was there it seemed customary to ask about how someone's day was. I know, weird right, asking that to a complete stranger. But that's oddly enough the way to get Norwegians to be more open and helpful. It's a warm folk once you get to know them :) I miss Norway. Also aren't there better places to ask for information than hotels? Good luck.

That's not weird at all. I ask people how they are all the time. Sometimes I piss people off behind me in line at the grocery store because I'll sit there having a conversation with the checkout person. Everyone just wants to buy their groceries and I'm holding up the line!

 Who cares. People like knowing that someone cares enough to ask how they're doing.
