Disappointed to hear that R.E.M. has disbanded.

They've been the soundtrack to my life to a large extent and I always anticipated their next album/song. Saw them live in 2005 too.

I will miss them.

R.E.M were a funny band. They had the occasional song that I really liked, but their sound in general didn't always appeal to me.

It's a shame they've disbanded though, I associate them with my childhood.

me too, they were pretty good, but damn they lasted along time which is good :)

yeah, disappointing to hear. i wasn't a big fan, but they did make good music. all good things come to an end i suppose.

I actually came in her to post a music thread :) I have a couple of REM songs that I play quite often. I think it would've been cool to see them live. One of those things I probably wouldn't had done even if I could, but which still feels sad now I know I really won't be able to.

Oh well I just don't want them to become like sad old men! They are all married now and having kids. They still make good music so maybe they should stop now before it starts going downhill! I mean Nicky prancing around still in his eyeliner and skirts its getting a bit cringe worthy! I mean the man has kids now! Poor things :p Btw I'm talking about the Manics!

Oh, then I understand :D Haha, yes, it can get a bit weird when bands and singers with a distinct image, like young and rebellious, turn into old farts but still keep it going! I don't know what to say though since of course they should have the right to play on if they love it ;)

Though all of my favorites are old already! They're all like grannies and veterans now. And they and their music stem from the free and daring 60's - the contrast is quite big :p

Exactly. I'm not like this with all my bands just them. Probably because they mean to much to me I don't want them to get too embarrassing! Though people have always taken the mick I like them.

Plus when you think when they started they said they were going to make one record sell sixteen million then split up you think they might be pushing their luck by now!

Hehe, yeah, I'll second that. I had a cool experience a couple of summers ago though, going to a Deep Purple concert. My god, they are like 70 years old - but still completely rocking it! The energy they were radiating was just frickin' mind-boggling. Cool to imagine every +70'er having that potential!

Oh yeah I still have major respect for how James can spin around on one foot playing the guitar and then sing without sounding totally puffed out! lol The mans a genius... :p

Hehe, yeah, good music live - it's hard not to love it :D I wish I could get some more of it though - in my town, there's never much happening :/ And I'd love to be able to see all of the oldies sometime, though as they were when in their prime time ...! ah well, big chance :p

I guess I'm quite lucky because I live near a city most bands play on tour. My dad saw the Beatles once, I guess thats pretty cool! :)

Ah, yeah - that should be a memorable experience, if any! There's usually so much more energy in it when live. Whenever I listen to U2 nowadays, I usually just go for the youtube clips from their various tours. Sound quality isn't something to cheer for, but I like the feeling of authenticity :) Sydney '93 seems to have been heck of a concert...
