My dog (pictured in avatar)

Yes pretty much he's spoilt......gets his 2 walks every day, plenty of food, take him to the beach, wash him regularly, vet visits often, have pet insurance. I think some human beings in the world don't get as good a deal.
Still I've heard worse. Like dogs getting birthday parties, special DVDs to entertain him or her, CDs for indoor dogs while owner is away so don't feel lonely, allowed to sleep in owner's bed.

That's one thing we never do. Allow the dog into the bedroom or even sit on the sofa. Still, a corgi is a bit heavy to be a lap dog I reckon.

But we get a lot in return from our dear pet dog. He's an ocean of love and zest for life! what more could we ask for?

Nah. I make sure to let my dog out, give him treats, brushings and feed him every day. He also has arthritus medication. He's 15 years old now and stays close to me while I'm walking around the house. I love him.

That does not sound like spoiling the dog, just proper care of him..

fair enough. Know where you're coming from. I think we spoil our pets compared to say 20 or 30 years ago.
When my parents had dogs, they never got walks, left to roam around the neighbourhood by themselves, lucky to get a wash at all. No insurance. Fleas, ticks all the time. .

I put on Animal Planet for my cats when I go to work.

Wow!

How could I not spoil my cats when they're the ones making me company all day? They're my furry little kids! (I'm aware that I sound like a crazy cat lady, but I really dont care)

My cats don't really like watching other cats on tv because they think its a HUGE cat there in front of them and get a bit scared. Its funny :p

Not really, though the cat's well cared for.

Some family members "spoil" their pets with human food and a lack of basic training, so they have absolute brats of animals that harass people during dinner and cooking, steal from plates and the counter if you turn your back, etc. I'm strict in comparison.

Agreed. I think that if you give your own food to your pet, you can't blame it for trying to eat it when you leave your plate unattended. lol

I agree as well. I utilize proper training and reward "good" behavior redirect from "bad" behavior with things like objectionable sounds, scents, etc. I do prepare gourmet food for the kitties from time to time, but they are not fed off my plate. Gourmet would be a steamed salmon filet for example.

I agree that walking, feeding, grooming, and vet visits are part of proper care. It seems silly to compare today's standard with what some people might have done before they realized pets required more maintenance in order to be emotionally and physically healthy. And health insurance? That's for you, not them!

I'd like to add that "spoiling" and "pampering" are not the same at all.

I think we spoil our dog food wise. He often has bits of ham and the odd sweet. He even has a roast dinner around Christmas because my Mum cooks too much food. You'd think this would make him unhealthy. But he has outlived around 5 dogs in our area who appeared to be healthier and fitter then he is.

I let him sleep on my bed for a few reasons.

1. If I don't, at some point in the night, he will sit outside my bedroom crying and crying until I let him in.
2. It gets really cold here at night around this time of year. He has a fur coat but he is an old dog who malts a lot these days.
3. He often gets moaned at for being in other parts of the house. I like to think I'm doing him a favor by letting him in my room.
