Don't trust people because most of them are only out to cause you pain, screw you over and laugh at you when you're crying.

I tend to mostly agree. It makes life interesting to have to learn to fight and rely on your own resources.
Sometimes you are forced not only into independence and isolation/alienation from others. Sometimes you start actively drawing into yourself an your world as protection. Occasionally you may choose to be a lock in and you become mentally removed from reality
In such states it is not hard to imagine that neurosis may present bit by bit. Social Anxiety, Depression, Tics, and so forth. maybe after a while the mental condition degenerates into Psychosis and degrees and forms of this....bad place.

Socialisation as such as bad and as confronting and scary and frustrating is sometimes better as an alternative. I don' trust people but I have to trust that they will be people and as such they are necessary for me to be a person.
You see me as a person who quotes LOTR and I see myself as a person trying to connect witout spending hours of each day reading worn pages in worn copies and obsessing dangerously. I see a person actually talking to people.

Perspective you know.

If you'd stop your attitude, maybe things wouldn't be so bad for you. If I were miserable like you, I'd expect the world to go dark too. Find someone to talk to who can make you realize how you are to people. You are nasty and horrible to nearly everyone you talk to, and then you wonder why no one wants any bother? If you always expect the worst, you always get the worst.

CAS, are you seeking any help right now for your pain? I know it can't be easy or feel good to be on edge and upset all the time.

I know it seems that there are more people than not, that don't seem sincere, but if you look.. you will find the genuine people.. people worth trusting. I think a lot of those people are here.. on this very forum.

I have been angry too, I have been sad, lonely, scared, and not at all trusting of anyone. But in order to actually live.. you have to let your guard down and really reach out. You are in a perfect place right here to do so... start with us, and move on to those around you.

People often make me feel bad about myself without actually meaning any harm and I get angry with them even though I know I shouldn't. It can be something as simple as appearing (and I do emphasize the word 'appearing') happy and well adjusted. I don't want to be like them or live their lives but I wish that they didn't cause me to reflect on myself with such bitingly negative introspection. So I can well understand what it's like to edge towards a jaded overview of my fellow man.
Unlike the original poster, my cynicism comes from general compatability issues rather than a dislike of human nature itself. I do agree though with measuring trust with caution - as long as it doesn't get to the point where every single person you meet is automatically regarded with hostile suspicion.

I agree, but he's not going to pay attention, Stella. None of us can help people who don't want to help themselves. All that's going to happen is, thread after thread, we'll suggest things to him, and he won't even pay it mind. Asking for advice and for help, yet not listening and not even caring what's being said doesn't make sense. If you're not going to hear us out, why even bother asking for the help in the first place...

I'm starting to believe either one of two things: He's just too content with staying in this state he's so uncomfortable in; or this is just all for attention. Which he's getting, so of course he won't stop.

Ummm why? Is the Army a cure-all for bitter, dislocated, disillusioned young men? I think not.

It's not the Army's job to "fix" people, and if that's why you're joining up, then you're going to be in for a surprise...because there are a lot of professional, serious people in the army that would not tolerate such traits as are listed above.

I can feel and see how it looks like there are many people against you, but really we are just trying to show you the light.
