Mine.

lol, but seriously - MOST jobs here (US) don't pay what most people consider a "fair wage."

^This - both parts. :)

Middle school teachers. Being one, I have a huge load, tons of responsibilities, parents that blame you, greasy pre-teen children that cry at the drop of a hat but think you know nothing being an adult and they know absolutely everything, and they pay slightly more than someone who drops off the trash.

And I'm up to speed on things like Justin Bieber and One Direction. This makes me very sad.

There should be a minimum wage based upon the level of qualification and potential danger involved

I'm often on the minimum of £6.19 hourly, and I (if it comes up) have to deal with burgulars, crackheads, old people collapsing and such. Odd that I make the same amount as an illiterate guy who puts things in boxes and nursery workers who have far more qualifications than me

Doesn't that qualify you for trauma pay or something? :)

The armed forces (although I only know approx how much British Military are paid, not any other nation's)

I'll be the first to sign the petition for more pay for all teachers. I think there definitely should be some hazard pay. We should get paid by the eye roll.

I'll love to sign that petition too. Until the day I sat down and actually looked at the praxis, and the sheer amount of effort going into each lesson plan, I had no clue what-so-ever. Literally. You just can't know how difficult teaching is unless you walk a mile and -at least- familiarize yourself with what the job actually calls for.

Damn straight.

Yeah... as a student, you never realize how much work teachers actually do to prepare a day's classes. :p

Don't worry too much -- it gets easier with time. That first year is a killer, but once you've built a decent curriculum, you can just use that and adapt it later as needed.

How about all teachers? Being one myself, I'd appreciate the extra income. :D

Agreed.

What BJD said is true. First year or two is always the killer. But it also depends on the support system you have. Coming from a school where my department is just short of manpower - gosh, don't even get me started.

Nobody who makes more than $1-2 should be posting in this thread ever.

And now I've got Americans writing to me about their jobs not paying enough.

Get a damn clue before writing **** like that. You won a golden lottery ticket at birth and you're complaining about it. Good style.

That's the reason why I try to avoid products made from cheap human labor. Try... But usually fail.

*Snip*

What I'm trying to say is that -
I believe society should place greater value on our teachers.
