I was in the drug store today and looking at the makeup when I realized I had no idea what to buy. I guess I'm looking for something that'd even out the surface of my face.

could you tell me what makeup you wear on a daily basis? what brand you prefer, the form of the makeup you deem to be best and why (power, liquid...)

And application tips will be appreciated :)

I wish i could help, but I don't wear make up....ever. I don't even know what colors would look good on me, let alone someone else.. and foundation... well, i don't know the first thing about it.... and yeah.. I am in my 30's :p

I will keep reading this thread... maybe i can get some tips too!

Looking "natural" is usually the best way to go, I think.

In order, the way I put on my make-up:
- Sunscreen/light-weight moisturizer that won't make your skin oily (almost forgot this one)
- Liquid foundation
- Mineral powder
- Brown or black pencil eyeliner
- Brown or black mascara
- Chapstick

Most people don't even think I have make-up on, and are usually surprised when I tell them I do. Just make sure you don't cake on the foundation (apply with make-up sponge), and apply mineral powder with a make-up brush.

I don't dare trust myself to give other application tips, but googling some might help. Application and make-up also depends on the look you are trying to go for.

edit:
Here's a good site I found for foundation application tips -- http://beauty.about.com/od/makeuptrickstips/ht/applyfoundation.htm

Yeah, they are meant to do the exact same thing.

I just use very little liquid foundation to cover blemishes (I pick at my skin a lot), under my eyes, and on my cheeks. The mineral powder, in my opinion, makes it look more air-brushed, natural (as long as you match skin tones), and kind of takes away that gross cake-on feeling that most foundations leave. I don't think mineral powder is as effective at covering "problem areas" alone.

But, I should warn, it's not very good for your pores. :p

Well, I start off with Neutrogena moisturizer that has some sunscreen or sunblock in it to protect my skin.
It will help with the summer weather as a lot of pre-mature aging, sunspots etc is due to sun damage.

For makeup, I am mainly using Physicians Formula and Pur Minerals (all powder). It isn't so much the brand that I look at, but more so what the product ingredients are. I tend to seek out either natural or nearly all natural makeup if possible.
For the lips, I simply use beeswax which I found at the pharmacy section.

IMHO, too many women unnecessarily cover their faces with makeup on a daily basis. The chemicals in makeup are often harsh and stink. If anything, I would suggest avoid covering your whole face with foundation - as you don't need it - and you may find that it will damage/ dull your skin over time.

I find this to be overly excessive:

If you touch your face, and your hands are covered in makeup - you're wearing too much. Along with that, tasting makeup sets off the gag reflexes for a lot of people...just an FYI in case you find a partner.

This is *all* just my opinion; no offense meant to anyone.

Both of these are what I use. :)

I only use a little mascara if I'm going someplace fancy

other than that I don't even if it just takes 5 minutes before going to school, that's five minutes I could be sleeping so no that's my philosophy

So that's why you girls take like 2 hours to get ready to hop down to the store!

This thread is very informative. :p

I don't know about foundation. I've never used it. I'm sure I'd know how to put it on if I had to. I'm more of an eye/lip makeup person. I like eyeshadows in every tone and shade of every color.

Wait, the video Luna posted... The crap is she doing? Her skin will be ruined with all the crap she does to it. That's so unnecessary. I've never seen such ridiculousness.

Wait, one more comment on that video. It's freaking awful. She basically whitened out her face, just to add color back on? What? She just could have left out like 20 of the 25 things she did... Someone asked her how to look like that? Really? That's just terrible.

I don't put makeup it's uncomfortable but I put some lipstick so that I don't bite my lip lol

I found that majority of the popular Youtube "makeup artists" are a bit overzealous. I was shocked to see all the raving comments and favourites.

Imagine what it would be like to make out with her.
All her hard work would be smeared everywhere. :p

You could probably find about any type of style of make-up on youtube, but they do tend to go "all out" when doing tutorials. Invest in some makeup brushes. You don't need to go out and pay 50 bucks for a MAC brush, I know CVS sells cheap but good make-up brushes that are basically the same, except a lower price. The price of make-up doesn't always mean it is the best. Some of the top priced make-up can just be awful, and some of the cheap stuff, you will fall in love with xD. You will probably need face primer and maybe eye primer. These make your makeup last longer. You don't need them, but some people suggest to.

Anyways. If you were looking for foundation to even out your skin and all that, I would go with liquid foundation. Don't apply too much though. Start at the center of your face and put a very light layer of it and blend it towards the outter areas of your face. Powders just make your face look "cakey" in my opinion, but I've heard it's great for people with oily faces, because it soaks it up. Mineral powder is also said to give good coverage like liquid foundation, but never tried it, so not sure. Getting a liquid foundation with high pigmentation is what you probably want. People get foundations like these to be able to cover up tattoos, scars, etc. They have waterproof foundations as well, but they're not really good for your skin. Some makeup can cause breakouts, so maybe try some hypoallergenic makeup. Clinique is a good brand for this. You will also need to find out what "tone" your skin is. They usually have little sign things hanging around to compare to your skin. You don't want to buy "golden" foundation when your tone is "ivory" or something like that. If you are have pimple problems, bags under your eyes, etc you should try to get some concealer. Just put it on that area and blend it in. Sometimes make-up makes pimples look worse so beware!

Eyeshadow can come in pencils, creams, powders, pencils, and even roll on :p Personally, I like to use a very light cream eyeshadow then add my powder eyeshadow because it stays better than just putting on the powder. You will just have to find out what type of this you like best.
There are so many types of mascara, it's crazy. You have ones that give your lashes length, volume, color, etc. They even have eyelash dyes o.o. So if you think you want a certain look, just buy whatever one you think will work for you.

There's lipstick, lip stain, lip gloss, and some lip balms/chapstick that has a tinted color. If you want a color that's going to last the night, go with lip stain. It basically stains your lip with that color for a certain period. I'm pretty sure the product will list how long it will last. Lip gloss is bad for windy days -_-, very bad. Your hair gets in it and bleh. Lipstick is good, but I think it tends to dry out quickly, but maybe my lips just suck. Don't buy a color just because you like it, make sure it looks good on you! Plenty of places have it so you can try before you buy :p

Blush comes in cremes and powder. I don't use it since my cheeks are naturally a little pinkish, but some people tend to use it anyways. Your skin color depends on what color of blush you would want.

I think I've covered about everything so, good luck :D

I wear makeup V.V Mysis knows everything -_-

I think I would actually have to say that price does have a correlation with quality, at least when it comes to foundation, since it is going to be all over your face. I'm pretty dark, and I've never found a drug store foundation that is even worth its $5. Even if you do manage to find the right shade for you, just take a picture with flash or go out into the sunlight and all bets are off.

Good foundation is pricey, but looks a LOT better. I use MAC for darker shades and excellent coverage, but people with fewer problems with their skin could go for something lighter.

P.S. I had someone once ask me if I felt like a clown when he found out I wear make up. How silly. It literally takes me 30 seconds in the morning to blob some foundation on. If I had a pretty face or clear skin, of course I wouldn't wear any; it would be redundant. Unfortunately, I was not served perfect genetic code on a platter and I am ballsy enough to think this should not prohibit me from seeking the appearance of smoother skin.

I'll bet all of you girls in here $10 that most guys would still find you very attractive without the makeup.

Just sayin'.

Oh, men. I suspect it would be hopeless to point out the many ridiculous things you fellas do to be more attractive (or manly? who knows these days). To each their own strangeness, I suppose.
