Yeah I got one tonight. I went in, the store is literally so small you've only got about a 4 by 8 area to stand next to the cash register. Anyway, I took out some cash and was about to pay, then seeing that it wouldn't be ready for a few more minutes I said I'd just come back later. I guess the guy in the back assumed I paid the guy in the front and vice versa. When I came back in a few minutes the guy in the back met me outside the store, gave me the Pizza and I took off.

You are aware that wasn't FREE pizza, but stolen pizza....right? That's no different than you going into a restaurant and walking out on the check.

If they have you on a security camera (which they probably do) they could go to the police and you could be arrested and charged. Also, the employee at the register will probably have to pay for it out of his own pocket since it was entered into their system. To keep from possibly being arrested, and just to do the right thing morally, you should go back and pay for the pie.

What if the pizza tastes like ****? He should bring it back and get a refund of the money he never gave to begin with. That's the best way to handle this situation in my books.:D

I was just being a smart ass.

The guy met you outside with the pizza? Kind of sounds like he knew...

If not, they'll probably remember you if you ever go back. Don't piss off the people that make your food.

While i agree that it should be paid for, i really doubt that the stores mistake could lead to charges.

On the one hand, you could say it was stealing.

However, if the store is so uncoordinated in it's approach to business that it hands out pizza to the wrong people, that's pretty inexcusable breakdown in communication there.

I like free pizza as much as the next person, but you do know that their drawer is going to be short, right? Honestly, I probably would have said that I didn't pay for it... but... awesome, free pizza.

It's called theft of services. He knows that he didn't pay for the service provided, but leaves anyway. Same thing when someone walks out of a restaurant and doesn't pay the check. Even if you haven't gotten the check, you know that you owe for the food.

One, it was their mistake. Even if he knew, they should be more attentive and should have asked for a receipt. And two, in most places, if it's under 20 dollars, they don't even bother. It usually has to be 20 dollars or over to carry some type of criminal charges.

Sure, you know you owe for the food, but SWAT can't come and lock your down for it. It's more of a moral thing than anything else.

Argue all you want, i still don't see them calling the police because they ran out and gave away a pizza. As Vanilla says it is more a moral issue than anything.

Why wouldn't they? It's theft even when it's a mistake in the company. Do not think they take this stuff lightly. Because if he does it a lot of other people can start doing it, thus if they report him it would be a warning for other people. Also when someone steals something in a supermarket they get reported right? why wouldn't a pizzeria do that. And obviously this is also a moral issue.

In all the time i have been around sandwich and pizza shops, not once when they sent an order out before receiving payment have they ever tried to press charges for their mistake. It isn't like he grab it and ran.

I don't know where you're from, so it can be a cultural thing. But here in The Netherlands you just get in trouble when you don't pay for your stuff, no matter what happened, you just owe them money.
