If she used the word "accident" then to me that would imply that she didn't think her cheating on you was all that big of a deal.
An accident is something unfortunate that happens (usually without intent). But when in the process of cheating, she was intending to sleep with someone else. It's not like getting into a fender bender where you didn't see it coming and you certainly didn't consciously decide to hit the car in front of you.
If she came to you saying "I made a horrible decision and I regret it" then it would more genuine.

I understand what she meant by a mistake. She regretted doing it and didn't think fully about how much it would actually cause. I cheated on one of my ex-boyfriends and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I did it because I was pissed off at him for lying to me and then calling me a cu nt. I left our place and stayed with a friend for a week and slept with one of my buddies. It was a mistake and I will always regret it. Cheating ruins the dynamics of trust and honesty in a relationship. But that's why as the saying goes that love is the greatest teacher. I know I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER cheat on anyone again. Learned my lesson.
