I clicked on one of the location things on the left side of the post here, and apparently it links to Google Maps to show the location.

Unsurprisingly, "Google could not find The Land of Wind and Ghosts" 🌬️👻

I'm curious to know why some people are so elusive about where they are from, considering the anonymity of this forum. Of course you don't have to disclose your city, but what's the issue with disclosing your state or even your country? Why are you so concerned about people knowing where you are? Tell me, tell me, tell me.

I'll bite.

I'm kind-of, sort-of anonymous.
At some point I got tired of changing handles all the time, and wanted to make things more streamline and uniform.
I wanted to make "TheSkaFish" my brand, so to speak. I want it to mean "me".

Unfortunately someone beat me to the punch on Reddit, TheSkaFish there isn't me.
I had to choose a similar name that looks more like the way I say the name.

Anyway.
I keep information to myself about where I am, for a couple reasons.

One, I like to be in control of my information. With keeping it to myself, it's mine to keep or give away as I see fit. When I like/trust someone enough, I feel comfortable letting them know stuff like that.

Two, although the vast majority of my interactions here have been friendly, there's been a minority of people here that I strongly dislike. Just as I consider some people here to be real-life friends, I consider some to be real-life enemies. Really with me there is just one who would be a security concern because they have a history of screwing with people here and in the offline world, thankfully they are not active anymore. I wouldn't want them knowing where I live unless I was armed, and I sent a clear message that if they want to f*ck with me, I'm playing for keeps.

Thirdly, I just like the location name I borrowed, haha.

That's about it, for me at least.

Not trying to play "battleship" and not asking for a confirmation, just making an observation.
For some reason, you strike me from being from somewhere in the Great Lakes region...
