He's not going to embrace anything or anyone or any advice you guys give. Some of us have tried. He's not ready to accept it. Unless you can prove me wrong on this, misanthrope. Which I doubt. But whatever, I said I'd leave you alone - but difficult really, cos I care. *shrugs* Oh well.

So do i, if i count Misanthrope. I hope you get to see that the glass is half full too.

Not even the biggest misanthrope in the world can be negative about a dog dialling 911 to save its owner. I just refuse to believe it.

Though I could. "It should have left her to die, there are too many people polluting this planet anyway" etc.

But come on, it's a dog, using a phone, lol!

LOL :D

I believe that life is a gift that comes with terms. I'd have killed myself a long time ago if I didn't believe one of those terms was that we are contractually obligated to live it to its end with full effort. I'm a man of my word, so I won't break that pact.

Firstly, yes, life is devoid of objective purpose (unless you're religious). You're going through an existential crisis, and I only just got out of one myself. Yes, everything is pointless in the cosmic sense, because it will amount to nothing in the end. Who cares? You can create subjective meaning for yourself, strive for a purpose you create in your head. Wanting to be happy is a purpose worth aiming for. Knowing everything is temporary should only motivate you to appreciate it more.

Secondly, the whole society-is-messed-up-so-I-refuse-to-participate-in-it thing is so ******* old. It's like when people can't handle the ego-deflation of being depressed, so they claim they're more wise and see things as they really are. It's a defense mechanism and an excuse to remain in one's comfort zone because it's easier than struggling to be happy. There's nothing wrong with being sad for the time being. Trying to be truly happy in the long-term sense is going to be a struggle, even if it shouldn't be, but blaming all of your unhappiness on the imperfections of reality rather than your own reactions to it is the easy way out, and the only person who's going to lose out is you by convincing yourself this is something inevitable and unchangeable.

Well said, flaneur. I totally agree.

Misanthrope23!! LadyForsaken has been trying to give you some superb advice here. Some people would pay hundreds of dollars in therapy for the kind of encouragement and advice she's offering FOR FREE!!

You're choosing to ignore this advice because you're so determined to hate, hate hate. Yeah life sucks sometimes. Ladyforsaken has had some REAL problems just lately. Problems with her health that I very much doubt you could even comprehend, but she's still managing to remain positive and has a cheery outlook on life. TAKE NOTICE OF THIS INSPIRATIONAL LADY AND GET A GRIP, SQUIRE!!

I think you would have to PM a moderator for that. But I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. I know it's not good to yell at each other but I do like to think some of us are friends, or at least understand these things can happen when we're feeling awful. I for one don't think any less of you for anything you've said recently, I still enjoy your posts :)

Nothing wrong with this thread, misanthrope. If anything, it'll allow others to read and learn and take something away from this. You show great courage in what you've done and I commend you for that. So don't worry. It's all cool now, we're cool now. :)
