wow guys... I am glad you are all ok! (hug) to you all!

i was once in a car accident... not wearing a seat belt... also in an old, small car with NO airbags, and i was hit by a Bronco that was speeding through a stop sign at about 60mph. I had the right of way and I was also going about 50-60mph. when i saw the truck coming all i could do was close my eyes and slam on the breaks... when i opened my eyes my whole front end was practically taken off. apparently, the person in the Bronco swerved to avoid me, and ended up tipped back on to my front end. If she hit me where the projected impact was supposed to be... right at the drivers side door... I would have been dead.

It really sunk in when the police said that to me and I became totally panicked and wouldnt drive for a year! luckily... both of us... in each car were un harmed, but it did scare the **** out of me. I NEVER go anywhere without my seat belt since that day.

I'm glad you two ok !!!

This thread reminds me of something STUPID I once saw on TV that Jessica Alba said.

Reporter : Have you ever thought about that scene in a movie where a man falls into the subway rails and gets killed ?

Jessica: Yeah, but I don't worry about it. That is a once in a lifetime experience

:rolleyes2:

Yeah, I guess it WOULD be a once in a lifetime experience.

*shakes head*

I also once heard her refer to Sweden as being the neutral country in europe. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to be on TV.

quiet guy - Im so glad youre ok !!! things like that DOES make someone more careful about things.

vanilla creme - OMG 1400!!!!!!!!! I thought hearing about the woman who had 1000 was a super extreme case !!!! Did she feel ill ? Or was it like me where I feel nothing.

Yea, it was normal for her at the time. She had been so long without proper medical treatment, it was an everyday thing. I'm sure if it went up like that now, she would be out of it, talking crazy and asking for people who aren't around. One night, when it was really high, she was out of it. That's when I found out what my angel's name was. Mom was calling her name, actually having a conversation with her, but we could only hear mom's side. And she said the name Amber, and it made sense to me because she has this golden glow around her.

Some people might not believe in angels, but I do, and I'm glad to know her name. I believe she kept my mom safe that night, because during the middle of that night, she was sent to the hospital.

Yea. I know I've felt dizzy before, almost like I want to faint. I start to shake, and I can't see straight. And as soon as I eat something or drink something I feel much better. And as far as I know, I'm not diabetic.

Can people who aren't diabetics get dangerously low blood sugar?

Oh definitely. Anybody low on blood sugar is termed 'hypoglycemic', whether it's a sort of chronic problem or a sudden onset. The brain constitutes 75% of our sugar use; so when we get low, it's the first organ to suffer from it, which is why hypoglycemic people (hypo, 'not enough'; glyc from root word gluc or glucose, 'sugar') get an altered level of consciousness.

I had been shoveling snow all day once off of a school roof and hadn't really eaten right...later that night I was talking with my buds here at the station and I actually collapsed. It happened pretty slowly...things went dark and hazy and I heard this loud 'whoosh' in my ears and nothing else and went from standing, to leaning on a truck, to being on the ground. Next thing I knew there was an ambulance there and an EMT with a glucometer telling them to go buy me dinner.

So they did. :D

I've never felt hypoglycemic...ok maybe once when I hadn't slept for two days and didn't eat for a while. :p

When people take insulin or oral medication it is very important they eat at least 45-60 carbs per meal or it is very easy for your blood sugar to get too low.

and a carb is a carb is a carb. You can eat candy or potatos. It doesnt matter, only the carb count matters.

And type 1 diabetics have to take insulin. Oral meds don't work. They are meant to stimulate the pancreas and for type 1 the pancreas doesnt produce insulin at all. People with severe type 2 also often have to take insulin.
