Despite my constantent moaning, I actually miss being in the Army, I find it hard to meet new people since becoming a civilian. Everything seems different, I find myself with no real freinds anymore for the first time in my life (being 34 years old). I get down all the time, and have gone very introverted inthe past couple of years having lost a lot of confidence. I have a office job but would love something more socially active, I keep applying for these jobs but always get turned down.

Anyway, rant over.

Wow, this is completely understandable. I used to work with a guy who was in the Army for a long time and he also felt similar, he told me how he had a hard time adjusting to "normal" life since - like you say - it's so different in the army.

So I guess it's something that takes time to adjust, but at least you can use this forum if you need to talk or anything.

An I know exactly how you feel about applying for jobs, I don't know where you're from but here in the UK it's tough getting employed at the moment, it's something you have to just persue with, unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply, I live in London. I was based in Germany and Cyprus for a couple of years, and then ended up in London. I do have a job, but its behind a desk (not that I am complaining too much as a job is a job). But its a quiet office, heads are down to analyse and work. I miss all the jokes and dark humour in the Army, or going out for a drink after a long day at work; but here everyone just rushes home as they have nearly a 1.5 hour commute home.

Might join the TA.

It just sounds like a completely different environment than you're used to, it's bound to effect you. But yeah I'd try an keep my focus, maybe take up a sport to keep you busy & sane.

I hear you there. I don't think I could handle not being military any longer. Its like the last old boys club, though one that everyone can join. This ass backwards bubble within society where social norms do not apply.
