I had breast cancer in 1995 and recovered.  For the last few years I have gone for a mammogram every three years and they have always been ok. Then I went for one 2 weeks ago and had a letter on Friday saying that there had been technical problems with the machine and I am to go for another one tomorrow, this time at the local specialist cancer centre.  Am feeling scared as I don't know whether 'technical problems' was just a euphemism or whether it was in fact the case.  A friend has offered to take me which is really good, as I don't want to go on my own.

I would imagine if it wasn't an actual problem with the machine, they likely wouldn't have said so. I mean, they generally don't tend to lie, right? If there was honestly an anomaly, I imagine they would have said so and they need to recheck to be sure.
Could there be something? Of course there could be, but is there definitely something? No.

I get the fear, I have a friend who agonizes over every recheck visit she goes to, but as they say, "don't count your chickens before they hatch." You are likely worried for nothing. They are probably only sending you to another places because the machine is broken and they can't do it there.

Good luck on the recheck!!!

I will let you and everyone else know how the recheck goes. It will be a relief to know, one way or the other

I think if the letter said it was a technical problem with the machine, then that's the truth. From my experience, the medical profession doesn't go beating around the bush and using euphemisms. Sounds like they discovered the problem and are issuing recalls to everyone who had mammograms, just to be on the safe side. Hugs, try not to worry! Do let us know how it goes. :)

Hi Tiina,
I'm sorry you have had a scare. It's understandable. It is probably as they said- a problem with the machine. If you had cancer, they would have to tell you. I can only imagine the worry is there. It might help time to go by faster staying busy. Maybe watching a movie? I'm glad you have a friend to go with you.
