There was a huge snowstorm of over a foot in the Northeastern USA where I live. It came early, at the end of October when many leaves were still on the trees. As a consequence many trees have split or fallen causing widespread blackouts. My house has a blackout. I must say it is quite liberating to be in the absence of electronic distractions. Before family life centered on the damn family watching Greek satellite tv, 24/7. My mind feels much more clear, the family actually communicates. Sadly, I stopped at my mom boyfriend's to briefly check the email and have been electronically distracting myself in a trance for several hours. I need to go home to eat. When the power goes back, the damned family will be shallow to have learned anything.

I heard a funny and emblematic comment on a news station about this storm from an average Joe being interviewed: (paraphrasing from hazy memory) "I already got to know the neighbors during Hurrican Irene(a purported hurricane that never came, but caused instead monsoon style rains, causing major flooding in the region) so I have been talking to them about our mutual predicaments from the fallen trees."

A sad indictment about the life of people from overly complex, technological and highly regimented societies and what little sense of community or interdependence they have as a result. But don't worry tom-fools on this thread assure us there is porn or good uses for the technology that in a large measure creates this social isolation.

Listen kiddies, this is the way of WIN: when presented with a better argument, ignore it and call anyone who disagrees with you a fool.

Forumers here say all sorts of crap like therapists are their only friends, or that the only friends they have are via the internet, etc. The people here have a very colored agenda in addition to the low horizons to all social issues common everywhere else.
