What do you to do get to sleep? Are you ever up in the middle of the night or at the crack of dawn?

I've been having an increasing number of sleep difficulties this year and am currently sleeping in shifts because I can't stay asleep for more than a couple hours at a time. I've tried tea and white noise so far, but I think it might be too severe for that.

Does your tea contain caffeine?

I have no sleep routine whatsoever. I can go a couple of weeks of normal sleep and then suddenly I'll be awake for 24 hours plus at a time and sleeping for as little as an hour. I'm up at all sorts of weird hours - it's after 2am now and I'm wide awake - and I often feel that I'm conscious, but barely able to concentrate.

I just have to ride it out until it returns to normal. Although I sometimes find that if my brain is running away with me turning on a movie I know inside out helps me to drop off.

For a while what helped me was to close my eyes and picture pure blackness. Yes I know that sounds ridiculous since you're obviously going to close your eyes and it will go black without any effort. But see an image of just pure black and focus on it.

Hey Cavey.:)

I also have no set pattern of sleep either. Quite often, I stay up all night. Have no set schedule.

I usually just go to bed whenever I'm feeling tired as nothing else seems to work. Sleep aids don't do the trick anymore as I used to take them a lot a few years back. So I'm up till the early hours of the morning like 5 - 6 AM. But I guess this is from a combination of caffeine + my body being set in its ways.

^ same except the pills.

One of these days I hope to set my mind on giving up coffee and late night laptop time.

Nope. It's even called "Sleepytime Tea".

No sheep? :p

I tend to download 5 hour long podcasts and put them in my iPod and play them on low volume when I go to sleep. When there are sounds around me I tend to get into a mental place where I ignore the sound and fall asleep. But if my body doesn't want to sleep I drink NyQuil and do the same with the podcasts. I'm usually out in 15 minutes or so that way.

Personally, I try closing my eyes, but I hear counting sheep is effective.
