Once or twice a week I'm getting random email addresses requesting an add on MSN. Its getting annoying too.

Its kind of hard to tell if they are spam or real people because some of the addresses do look to be genuine. I've had one that was obviously a spammer, but then others are just odd.

For one I sent a message and I get the "(name) is typing" for a sec and then nothing else. I eventually deleted that one, and then another one messaged "hey" to me and they never replied anything after that.

Its odd because it seems that spam bots should be sending me spam messages and links but most of them arent...they just do nothing. Anyone else who uses MSN experiencing this? btw my virus/ spyware/ spam filters do not find anything.

Yes, for video and picture sharing. It is really annoying. It looks so innocuous,
"Hey, I saw your picture, let's chat" or "The pic you sent me..."

Argh. The spambots are getting crafty.

I'd rather them tell me that so I can delete them and be done with it. Instead they do nothing...

its like "Alright bot.....what the heck are you doing? What is your intention? To take up space on my MSN list!?!"

This may be a factor: A lot of times I see on this website, that people post up their own MSN screen names.
There are a lot of auto-bots on the internet that are called "spiders". They scan websites for '@' and anything immediately before that symbol and after it. That's how spammers collect email addresses and screen names. It has nothing to do with spyware on your computer.

Just thought I'd give in my two cents. :)

i wonder if there is an option on this board to disable spiders from being able to view profiles (where usually im info is posted at).

vbb, phpbb have such an option.

maybe spiders are getting on profiles and that is why members are getting spammed. just a thought.

on my board in the past, i disallow spider viewing of profile and search. :D

NOW get on it! LOL

It's less a matter of user profiles. They are more restricted to "outsiders". It's more a matter of people posting their own email addresses/screen names. Sometimes, users will post them up.

Heck, there is even a whole thread of users posting them lol.

Whatever it is, it seems to be more then bots wandering websites. I created an MSN logon and used it once for maybe an hour. Never touched it again for more then six months. Looking at it again after six months there were a number of add requests. Seemed unusual since i never posted it anywhere and never used it again.
