Without knowing the context of that spot in the film (since I haven't seen it since the 80's), there does look to be twine on the end of the gun and the thing in the other hand has a wire dangling from it.

but as I said, that could be part of the context of the movie.

But then in a clue you gave, you mentioned something about the "time elapsed" so if it has to do with 1 hr into the movie then I have no idea what you are talking about.
