These days I don't know why I started thinking about a teacher I had some years ago. I didn't know at the moment he was going to be such an inspiration to me...

He was different... I was still learning english in a private school after HS when we were introduced to this new australian teacher. He didn't spoke spanish so the only way to communicate was in english, that was a bit of a challenge but we were well prepared by then. At first I found it odd that he'd be constantly saying "bloody this... bloody that...", later I realized this was a synonym of "damn"... He took a look at the book and said something like "this sucks" so we didn't use the book all the previous teachers used! Instead we talked and watched episodes of old sitcoms.

He was a very funny guy. One day he was coming down from some stairs into the classroom and I told him "What took you so long? were you touching yourself?" His exact words were "You think I was jerking off?" I tought he was the coolest theacher, still do...

"I am a lawyer, so believe me when i tell you you don't need to be smart to be a lawyer, you just need to memorize a lot of laws"... Of course this man was pissing off the administration... He was like a Dr. House in a teacher version... he had to resign... I was angry at him and didn't got his e-mail, kind of regreted it after a while.

I guess what inspired me of him was that he always showed passion in teaching. His methods weren't by the book (literally :p ) but he gave up being a lawyer to do something more important to him than money. That's a powerful statement. He was himself, and was not afraid to be like that.

So that was my inspiring person of today :D (there were 2 in my life really)

If you have someone, feel free to share....

I had a few teachers who would toss the text book out the window, figuratively speaking. They were the funnest teachers, and everyone would pay attention. When I went to college I had one teacher who was a retired computer programmer, he went by the book. 80% of the class failed the course he was teacher. We had to retake it. Had a different teacher who was younger and taught from his experience, not by the text book. He was fun. I ended up with a 96 in that course.

I used to be in the Big Brother program for a few years, my Big Brother was a recovering drug user. He had cleaned himself up, got a good job, and was engaged to the woman who helped out with Big Brothers. He overcame a lot of things in his life and was very inspirational, wish I kept in contact with him.

The world should have more teachers like him.

Yes... it's a shame they are poorly paid. Maybe then we would get some more like him. Teaching is an important job...
