The "Following"

I have never found any use in it either.
 
If you go into your news feed, you can essentially stalk everyone you are following. It will show you literally everything they have done. That's it. It's just to stalk people. lol (at least as far as I've seen, anyway)
 
So I've never really understood how "following" works. I follow a few people, but how does that benefit me? What does it achieve? How do I actually make use of it?
It makes it easier to see their threads, posts, and to contact them easier. Only certain people allow others to view their profiles. Like me. I'm completely private unless you're following me. I don't let everyone see everything about my profile. It's kind of like Fb. Private profile vs. public.

That’s not correct. If I follow you here, I still can’t see your profile.
 
No, I have it limited to who can see what. So, if you click my profile and you're not following me, you can't see anything. The only thing you can do is send me a direct message and come on the actual threads and posts to see what I've posted or responded with, but you can't go to my direct page and look at my threads, posts, or following.
